HOUSTON, Dec. 21 – Range Resources Ltd., West Perth, Western Australia, said a Frio trend well confirms a gas discovery in the North Chapman Ranch area of Nueces County, Tex.
Range, a 25% interest holder, said Crest Resources Inc. Smith No. 1 flowed 2.4 MMcfd of gas and 191 b/d of oil with no water on a 10/64-in. choke during a 5-hr clean-up. Final flowing casing pressure was 6,354 psi.
The Smith well is near Crest’s Zdansky No. 1, which Range called an apparent discovery that couldn’t be completed because of hole problems.
The Smith well, drilled and logged to 13,975 ft, targeted the Howell Hight formation. Open-hole logs indicated about 120 ft of net pay in three zones with no water.
Crest ran 4.5-in. production casing to TD and perforated 20 ft of one of the three zones, estimating bottom-hole pressure at 11,650 psi.
The privately held operator shut in the well with a final measured casing pressure exceeding 9,000 psi, Range said. The well awaits production facilities and a pipeline connection. It will be tested further and completed at that time, Range said.
The well partners have bought an additional 560 acres in the area and now hold 1,680 acres.
