HOUSTON, Nov. 3
– Apache Corp. plans to have four rigs drilling horizontal wells by the end of 2009 in a play for liquids-rich gas in Pennsylvanian Granite Wash in the Anadarko basin of western Oklahoma, where it will drill 20 wells in 2010.

Apache’s first operated well in the play, Hostetter-1-23H in Washita County, is producing 17 MMcfd of gas and 800 b/d of condensate from the formation. It want to 12,500 ft with a 4,000-ft lateral and eight frac stages. Apache has 72% interest.

Apache controls more than 200,000 acres, most of it held by production, and has drilled hundreds of vertical wells.

Granite Wash stacked sandstones extend more than 100 miles across western Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle, and horizontal drilling has unlocked hundreds of new opportunities on the company’s acreage, Apache said. The play’s high liquid hydrocarbon content makes it especially attractive when gas prices are low.
