Typhoon Koppu halts Huizhou field production

HOUSTON, Sept. 24
-- Typhoon Koppu on Sept. 14 damaged the mooring lines and delivery hose of the single point mooring system for the Nanhai Faxian floating, production, storage vessel, resulting in production stopping from Huizhou field, according to CNOOC Ltd.

The field lies in the Pearl River Mouth basin and had a producing capacity of about 41,000 b/d of oil and more than 33 MMcfd of gas, the company said.

CNOOC noted that no casualties occurred during the storm and that it planned to tow the FPSO to a safe area as soon as possible.

Operator of the field is the CACT (CNOOC, Agip, Chevron, Texaco) group. Interest owners in CACT are CNOOC 51%, Eni SPA 16.3%, and Chevron 32.7%.
