    China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (Sinopec) said its joint refining and chemical complex with Kuwait Petroleum Corp (KPC) is to be constructed on Donghai Island in Zhanjing city, near Hainan.

    The US Chemical Safety Board has sent an investigative team to ExxonMobil Corp.’s 240,000-b/d Joliet, Ill., refinery following an Aug. 6 propane and hydrogen fluoride release there.
  • 08/10/2009 -- Shell China says no site selected for refinery
    Shell China Exploration and Production Ltd. (Shell China), aiming to correct earlier media reports, said no location has been decided yet for a planned refining and chemical complex, a joint project between itself, PetroChina, and Qatar Petroleum (QP).

    ConocoPhillips and Saudi Aramco have let an engineering and procurement services contract to KBR to prepare a utilities, interconnecting systems, and pipe racks package for their planned 400,000 b/d export refinery in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia.

    As predicted by Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Petróleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA) and Petróleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) have finally reached agreement concerning the Abreu e Lima refinery under construction in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco.
