    The International Energy Agency has raised its projection for average global oil consumption during 2009-14 by 1.9 million b/d in an update to the medium-term market forecast it published last June.

    The front-month natural gas contract jumped 8.2% Dec. 10 to the highest closing price since mid-January on the New York market after the Energy Information Administration reported the first withdrawal of gas from storage this winter, which proved bigger than expected.
  • 12/10/2009 -- MARKET WATCH: Crude price drops to 2-month low
    The front-month crude contract fell Dec. 9 for the sixth consecutive session—the longest losing streak since early July—to the lowest price level since early October on the New York market after the Energy Information Administration reported an unexpected drop in US crude inventories and a bigger than expected build in gasoline stocks.

    A group led by Anadarko Petroleum Corp. is gathering data to analyze fluids from its Lucius exploration well in the ultradeepwater Gulf of Mexico after it encountered more than 200 ft of net pay in subsalt Pliocene and Miocene sands.

    The US Department of Energy will provide $350 million to support a project designed to capture carbon from a proposed electric power plant near Midland-Odessa, Tex., and transport it to the Permian basin where it will be used in enhanced oil recovery, US Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced.
