-- Montara platform fire out; leak plugged in Timor Sea Thai company PTTEP Australasia has finally managed to plug the oil leak from a well drilled from its Montara oil and gas field platform in the Timor Sea and in the process snuff out a damaging fire that had broken out engulfing the platform and the West Atlas jack up drilling rig directly above it.
-- BP, CNPC signs deal to hike Rumaila output BP PLC and China National Petroleum Corp. have signed the technical service contract with the Iraqi government that will enable them to nearly triple oil production in supergiant Rumaila field to 2.85 million b/d.
-- US rig climbs 21 units to 1,069 US drilling activity shot up by 21 units this week with 1,069 rotary rigs working the week ended Oct. 30. This compares with 1,971 rigs drilling in the same period last year, Baker Hughes Inc. reported.
-- Encore plans 22-stage frac in Williston lateral Encore Acquisition Co., Fort Worth, plans to apply a 22-stage frac in a Three Forks-Sanish (TFS) horizontal well in the Williston basin in order to compare single-stage and multistage frac effectiveness.
