LONDON, Dec. 30 -- Heritage Oil Ltd. has spudded the Giraffe-1 exploration well on Uganda's Block 1, and drilling is expected to be completed within the next 3 weeks.

The third well in Heritage's drilling program, Giraffe-1 will reached a target depth of 800 m. Giraffe-1 is 5 km southwest of the successful Buffalo-1 well (OGJ Online, Oct. 21, 2008).

The operator has mapped out other prospects from over 600 km of seismic data acquired on the licensed area during the past 18 months.

"All are characterized by encouraging seismic amplitude anomalies similar to those seen over the Buffalo and Warthog discoveries," Heritage Oil said. "These all represent further prospects and leads, which constitute additional multiple drilling targets within the block."

Heritage has a 50% equity interest in the acreage and is partnering with Tullow Oil PLC, which holds the remaining 50% interest.
