Devon gets nod for second Jackfish oil sands project

By OGJ editors
HOUSTON, Sept. 19 -- Devon Energy Corp. received regulatory approval to immediately start production of Jackfish 2, Devon's second oil sands project in Canada.

Once fully operational in 2012, Jackfish 2 will produce about 35,000 b/d through steam-assisted gravity drainage. Over the project's life, Devon expects to recover about 300 million bbl of oil from Jackfish 2.

Meanwhile, Devon is ramping up production at its original Jackfish project, which started operations in 2007. Both Jackfish and Jackfish 2 are in northeastern Alberta.

Jackfish expected to reach its full production capacity of 35,000 b/d in first half 2009.
