LONDON, June 13 -- Zulu Energy Corp. spudded its first coalbed methane (CBM) exploration well on the Pandamatenga licenses in northeastern Botswana. The 2008-01 well will reach a TD of 600-800 m through the Kalahari Sands and the Stormberg Lavas.

The company has identified six sites on which it will carry out core desorption tests for the 18 planned stratigraphic exploration holes to determine the location of gas. With this data it can plan production pilots after evaluating coal thickness and permeability.

The Pandamatenga licenses span 2.2 million acres in an extension of the Mid-Zambezi basin in northeastern Botswana. Zulu said it was confident that the acreage has strong potential for coal bed methane hosted in the Lower Ecca Group of the Permian age Karoo Supergroup.
