Oil leak detected on Pembina pipeline system

HOUSTON, June 16 -- Pembina Pipeline Corp. is working with emergency services and the Alberta Energy Resources Conservation Board to address an oil leak from its pipeline system. The leak was discovered June 15 near a crossing of the Red Deer River about 5 km north of Sundre.

It is estimated that 75-125 bbl of light, sweet crude oil were released. The leak has been isolated and the flow has stopped from the pipeline, Pembina said. There were no injuries and the cause of failure is under investigation.

An internal inspection conducted in January did not detect any issues on the pipeline.
