LONDON, May 29 -- StatoilHydro has resumed oil production from the Statfjord A platform in the Norwegian North Sea following its closure earlier in the week due to a leak between a storage cell and one of the platform shafts.
Production on the Snorre A platform and the Vigdis field, which also were shut down due to the incident on Statfjord A, was resumed May 25.
The company was forced to evacuate part of the crew and initiate an oil spill clean up on Statfjord after pumping 1,200 cu m of oil-containing water to sea early for safety reasons.
The incident did not cause any injuries, said head of Statfjord production, Lars Petter Lundahl.
The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway and StatoilHydro have launched investigations into the oil leak.
Statfjord is one of the oldest producing fields on the Norwegian continental shelf with 19,000 b/d. StatoilHydro's interest is 44.34%.
Production from Snorre A and Vigdis is sent to Gullfaks A for treatment and export. Snorre delivers 75,000 b/d and Vigdis 44,000 b/d. StatoilHydro's interests in the fields are 33.32% and 41.5% respectively.
