Pittsburgh conference will examine many aspects of carbon capture and sequestration

May 5-8: The seventh annual Carbon Capture and Sequestration conference will be held at the Sheraton Station Square hotel and conference center in Pittsburgh. The US Department of Energy, National Energy Technology Laboratories and Monitor Exchange Publications & Forums are sponsors. Co-sponsors include BP, Shell, General Electric and Schlumberger.

Why it matters: Carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) is increasingly becoming an issue for oil and gas producers. This forum brings together government, industry and financing participants to discuss a wide range of issues. Jeffrey F. Kupfer, DOE's acting deputy secretary, will outline "US Efforts to Outline the Demonstration and Deployment of CCS" in the conference's keynote address on May 6. He will be followed by Elizabeth Fleming, regional CO2 manager of Shell E&P Americas, whose address will examine ways to use the oil and gas industry's expertise and experience to expedite CCS deployment. Other sessions will look at the CCS investment climate, site selection and management, evolving technology and regulations, liability questions and activity in other countries.
