LOS ANGELES, Mar. 7 -- PT Pertamina EP, a subsidiary of Indonesia's state-owned oil and gas company, has discovered oil with three wells in the Pondok Tengah complex in Bekasi, West Java.

Pertamina said cumulative results of production tests conducted in wells Ranca Jawa (RCJ)-1, Pondok Makmur (PDM)-1, and Karang Enggal (KRE) were 4,889 b/d of oil and 14 MMcfd of gas.

Oil and gas in PDM-1 and KRE-1 wells were generated from basement reservoirs of a new exploration play in the northern part of the West Java basin.

Exploration well PDM-1, 10 km north of Pondok Tengah field, has been operated since Nov. 27, 2007, at 3,050 m TD. Production tests resulted in a flow of 3,096 b/d of oil and 3.9 MMcfd of gas.

The operation of the KRE-1 well in the Indramayu regency began Dec. 7, 2007. It reached a final depth of 3,200 m. The production test conducted in the basement structure resulted in output of 448 b/d of oil and 6 MMcfd of gas, the company said.

Exploration well RCJ-1, about 4 km north of Pondok Tengah field, has operated since Nov. 10, 2007, at 2,344 m TD, Pertamina said. Production tests in the Talangakar and Pre-Talangakar formations resulted in flows of 1,345 b/d of oil and 4.1 MMcfd of gas, it reported.

Pertamina will drill two delineation wells in each structure to confirm reservoir reserves this year. Its 2008 development plan also calls for drilling 22 wells and shooting 2,229 km of 2D seismic and 870 sq km of 3D seismic surveys.

Pertamina Upstream Director Sukusen Soemarinda said that with the discovery of the oil and gas deposits and 19 other wells, Pertamina is optimistic it can achieve its production target for 2008.

On Jan. 22, BP Migas Chairman Kardaya Warnika said Indonesia plans to increase its oil output by 80,000 b/d in 2008 to reach the government's target output of 1.05 million b/d.

He said 12 existing and new oil projects will supply the additional output, and Pertamina will increase output at Pondok Tengah field by 17,000 b/d.

Warnika also said that ConocoPhillips would increase its offshore fields' output by 15,000 b/d; that Chevron Corp. would add 25,000 b/d to its output from fields on the northern Duri Block in Riau; and that Bumi Siak Pusako-Pertamina would add 5,000 b/d from Bene Bekasap field in Riau.
