Melbourne, Nov. 5 -- Woodside Petroleum Ltd. has let a $373 million (US) contract for work on its Pluto LNG project to Chicago Bridge & Iron.

The engineering and construction firm will be responsible for engineering, procurement, construction, and precommissioning of two 120,000-cu-m full-containment LNG storage tanks as well as three condensate tanks and associated civil, piping, electrical, and instrumentation work.

The Pluto shore-based LNG plant and facilities will be on the Burrup Peninsula of Western Australia 20 km northwest of Karratha. The plant will initially comprise one LNG train with a capacity of 4.3 million tonnes/year of LNG.

Pluto was given the environmental green light by the Australian Government last month (OGJ, Oct. 22, 2007, p. 32). First LNG production is expected in 2010.
