LONDON, July 6 -- RWE Gas Midstream plans to develop an LNG import terminal called German GasPort at Wilhelmshaven in northern Germany. It will use Excelerate Energy's ship regasification technology to deliver the gas directly into the German grid.
German GasPort is a dockside regasification applicationa land-based manifold that will connect to a high-pressure gas arm on Excelerate's Energy Bridge regasifcation vessels.
RWE, working with Excelerate and Nord-West Oelleitung GMBH, plans to deliver as much as 600,000 cu m/hr of regasified LNG into the German network starting by yearend 2010.
The partners will carry out technical and financial studies over the next few months. The project must yet secure permits from various authorities concerning marine, environmental, and pipeline connection matters.
RWE has prior experience with onboard regasification at the Teesside GasPort in the UK, which started operations in February with RWE Trading delivering gas to the UK market (OGJ Online, Feb. 20, 2007).
German GasPort is based on an agreement between RWE and Excelerate to jointly develop LNG import facilities in Europe.
