LONDON, July 19 -- Chevron North Sea Ltd., Aberdeen, operator of offshore Rosebank appraisal well 205/1-1 in the Faroe-Shetland Channel, west of Shetland, reported that the well has tested 6,600 b/d of what it called "good quality oil."
The well, the first appraisal well of three planned, is in the southern part of the Rosebank structure on Block 213/27-1Z. It hit over 25 m of vertical oil pay in reservoir sands at 2,750 m TVD subsea. Test details were not released.
Transocean Offshore (UK) Inc.' Transocean Rather drilled the appraisal well in 1,100 m of water.
Consortium partners in the 205/1-1 well are ChevronTexaco 40%, Statoil (UK) Ltd. 30%, OMV (UK) Ltd. 20%, and Dong Energy 10%.
The partners will drill the second appraisal well, 213/27-A2, in the northern part of the structure. Drilling is expected to complete in November, and the companies will analyze appraisal data to plan a future work program for the oil and gas discovery.
The partners' August 2004 Rosebank-Lochnagar discovery well, in 3,600 ft of water 126 km off Esha Ness, Shetland, found two 27-36° gravity oil and gas accumulations in a total 169 ft of net pay, but the well was not tested (OGJ Online, Aug. 25, 2005).
