LONDON, June 14 -- Dana Gas PJSC, Sharjah, has found gas and condensate in Qawasim sands within its Eygptian El Wastani West-2 well (EWW-2). Dana Gas's upstream division, Centurion Petroleum Corp., drilled the EWW-2 well to a TD of 3,175 m and encountered 8.3 m of net pay over a gross pay interval of 24 m.
EWW-2 on test flowed gas at 9.5 MMcfd and condensate at 1,022 b/d through a 28/64-in. choke.
The EWW pool represents a new block to the west of El Wastani gas field, and Dana said estimates of recoverable reserves from the new pool are under evaluation.
EWW-2 is 800 m from the company's El Wastani gas processing infrastructure and is tied into it. The well came on stream May 29.
EW-12 well workover
Gas production in the EW-12 well is expected to increase because of a successful workover, Dana Gas added. It has carried out additional perforations in the gas-bearing zone of the Abu Madi formation. A spokesman from the company told OGJ there is some technical and engineering work yet to complete.
By the end of June Dana Gas also expects to complete infill well EW-8 in El Wastani, which will contribute to gas and condensate production from the Abu Madi formation.
"This well is still drilling. It would be inappropriate to forecast production at this stage," he added.
The company expects to drill 12 more exploration wells in Egypt by yearend after completing a study of its exploration and production acreage. "The study has also identified new and potentially high-volume deeper reservoirs," said Duncan Nightingale, Dana Gas general manager for exploration and production.
Dana Gas found gas-bearing zones in the Kafr El Sheikh formation at 1,363 m while drilling its Marzouk-1 exploration well on the West El Manzala concession. The well has reached 2,623 m at the top of the Abu Madi formation and is moving through to the Sidi Salim formation. The company hopes to drill one shallow and one deep well by yearend on the West El Qantara concession.
Dana Gas is using three land rigs and one workover rig: ECDC2, owned by Egyptian Chinese Drilling; ECDC6; Precision Drilling International's PDI-147; and workover rig VT (Valve and Tools).
Centurion has spudded its first exploratory well, Komombo-4, in partnership with Kuwait International Oil & Environment Co. The well will reach a TD of 2,562 m to test the Cretaceous and Jurassic sandstone reservoirs in the frontier area of Upper Egypt.
Dana Gas also received the go-ahead from Egyptian authorities to develop the Luzi-1 gas-condensate discovery well, which will start before the end of the month. The gas will be used domestically. "A sales gas agreement is awaiting signature by EGAS," the spokesman said.
Luzi-1, on the West Manzala concession, encountered 37 m of net pay in the Abu Madi formation and tested 9.5 MMcfd and 123 b/d of condensate.
Liquid petroleum gas production has started at Dana Gas' new 220-tonnes/day facility in El Wastani field, which will contribute positively to the company's 2007 revenues. Current throughput is 120 tonnes/day of LPG production. "The plant capacity can be further expanded," the spokesman said. "Completion of engineering design studies will be required to determine by how much."
