Total makes downstream executive appointments

Total SA has made several appointments in its refining and marketing division.

HOUSTON, Mar. 26 -- Total SA has made several appointments in its refining and marketing division.

Benoît Luc has been appointed senior vice-president, strategy, business development, and research and development, of Total Refining & Marketing, effective Apr. 1. He succeeds Jean-Jacques Mosconi, who has been named senior vice-president, strategic planning.

Luc joined Total in 1984. From 1993-95 he worked for Portugal's Petrogal SA before being appointed vice-president, business development and strategy, for Total Overseas. In 1996 Luc served as chief executive of Total Oil Turkiye and then as senior vice-president, marketing development, from 1999 to mid-2001. Since then, he has served as chief operating officer and chief executive of Total Italia.

Manuel Olivier has been appointed chief executive of Total Italia, which is part of Total Marketing Europe. He succeeds Luc.

Olivier began his career as an analytical engineer with Bureau Véritas in Paris and later served in the same capacity at the National Oil Institute in Caracas. In 1988 he joined Orkem's strategy department. He has worked in the specialties business at Total R&M, where he later headed Total Lubrifiants International, Total Fluides, and Air Total International, from yearend 2001.

Momar Nguer has been appointed vice-president, aviation fuel, which is part of the specialties business. He succeeds Olivier.

Nguer joined Total Africa in 1984. From 1985-91 he served as vice-president, marketing, at Total Senegal. Nguer was subsequently chief executive of Total Cameroon until 1997 and of Total Kenya from 1997 to 2000. He then was appointed executive vice-president, Total East Africa & Indian Ocean.
