Total splits chairman, chief executive positions

Total SA has decided to split the chairman and chief executive officer positions, which have been held by Thierry Desmarest.

HOUSTON, Feb. 16 -- Total SA has decided to split the chairman and chief executive officer positions, which have been held by Thierry Desmarest.

Desmarest remains chairman, and Christophe de Margerie becomes chief executive officer. De Margerie has been with Total for more than 30 years, serving most recently as president of exploration and production.
