  • 02/02/2007 -- Oil Search abandons Papua New Guinea gas line project
    Sydney-based Oil Search Ltd. has abandoned it's $8 billion (Aus.) Papua New Guinea-Queensland gas pipeline project, maintaining that costs and returns are no longer attractive when compared with other options such as LNG or petrochemical plants in the country.

    Russian President Vladimir Putin said his country is planning new oil and gas transit routes to Europe and Asia to reduce Russia's dependence on transit countries and improve its supply reliability.

    Abu Dhabi Gas Liquefaction Ltd. has awarded a $610 million lump sum turnkey contract to Technip, Paris, to engineer and install gas compressor stations and associated facilities at Das Island in the UAE.
  • 01/30/2007 -- Lukoil lets pipelay contract for Yuri Korchagin oil field
    OAO Lukoil unit Lukoil-Nizhnevolzhskneft LLC has let a subsea pipeline installation contract to a unit of J. Ray McDermott SA for the Yuri Korchagin oil field pipeline project, 180 km off Russia in the Caspian Sea.

    Norwegian gas pipeline operator Gassco AS has submitted a plan to the Norwegian energy ministry to develop a 3 billion cu m/year gas pipeline from Kårstø in western Norway to eastern Norway, western Sweden, and Denmark.

    Enbridge Energy Partners LP has let a contract to Gulf Interstate Engineering Co. for first-phase preliminary engineering services for sections of the proposed Alberta Clipper oil pipeline and the Southern Lights diluent pipeline.
  • 01/26/2007 -- Gazprom, Japan ink Sakhalin-2 LNG supply deal
    Russia's state-owned OAO Gazprom will provide Japan with a stable supply of Sakhalin-2-produced LNG, according to Japanese Economy, Trade, and Industry Minister Akira Amari.
  • 01/26/2007 -- KazMunaiGaz signs MOU for KCTS oil export system
    Kazakhstan's state-owned KazMunaiGaz has signed a memorandum of understanding with Tengizchevroil and Agip KCO for the development of a new transport entity, Kazakhstan Caspian Transport System, to export Kazakhstan crude oil.

    Statoil ASA will invest $1.7 million in new equipment to improve its oil spill emergency response systems off northwestern Russia in partnership with authorities in the Murmansk area.

    Projects to build two sections of the East Siberia Pacific Ocean (ESPO) oil pipeline meet the requirements of Russia's environmental safety and protection laws, according to Konstantin Pulikovsky, director of Russia's environmental watchdog Rostekhnadzor.

    Shanghai LNG Co. Ltd. began construction Jan. 22 on Phase I of its LNG receiving and regasification terminal on Zhong Ximentang Island in China's Zhejiang province.
  • 01/22/2007 -- Brazil, Venezuela ink mega-pipeline deal
    Venezuela President Hugo Chavez and Brazil President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed an accord Jan. 18 for construction of a 5,000 km gas pipeline linking Venezuela to Brazil through the Amazon.
  • 01/19/2007 -- NWS LNG exports rise to meet growing demand
    The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics reported last month that Australian LNG exports are forecast to rise by about 22% to 15.2 million tonnes in 2006-07 and will be worth $197.2 million in the year.
  • 01/19/2007 -- Mitsubishi joins Pertamina, Medco in LNG project
    Indonesia's state-owned PT Pertamina said Mitsubishi Corp. will own 60% of a 2.5 million tonnes/year gas liquefaction (LNG) plant to be built in Senoro, Central Sulawesi, and will offtake much of the LNG production from the plant.

    Venezuela and Ecuador have finalized an agreement whereby Ecuadoran Napo crude oil will be shipped at market prices to Venezuela in return for fuel processed in Venezuelan refineries.
  • 01/15/2007 -- Transneft completes first ESPO pipeline section
    Russia's state-owned OAO Transneft reported it has constructed about 530 km of the planned 4,188-km East Siberia Pacific Oil Pipeline (ESPO).
  • 01/11/2007 -- Azarigaz starts gas exports to Georgia
    Azerbaijan's Azarigaz began exporting natural gas Jan. 11 along the Haciqabul-Qazax-Tbilisi trunk line to Georgia, which is seeking to reduce its dependence on increasingly expensive Russian supplies.
  • 01/11/2007 -- Russia resumes oil flow to Belarus, Europe
    Russia resumed delivering crude oil to Europe via Belarus on Jan. 11, ending a 3-day suspension of supplies along the Friendship pipeline that affected Germany, Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary.
  • 01/10/2007 -- Tepco seeking more stable LNG sources
    Tokyo Electric Power Co. (Tepco) will not renew long-term agreements to purchase LNG from projects in Alaska and Indonesia when they expire in 2009.
