    ExxonMobil Corp. has shut down a crude distillation unit after two workers were killed and two others injured in a fire at its 309,000 b/d Pulau Ayer Chawan off the southwestern coast of Singapore.

    ExxonMobil Corp. agreed to pay $250,000 in penalties to the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) for excess emissions on Mar. 22 from its 130,000 b/d Torrance, Calif., refinery, AQMD confirmed May 10.

    Japanese oil companies are planning to increase exports of petroleum products by as much as 50% this year due to a decline—for the fourth year running—in domestic demand for fuel oil.

    Malaysia has agreed to build a 320-km oil pipeline from northwestern Kedah state, across Perak state, to northeastern Kelantan state which fronts the South China Sea, reported Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. The project would enable Middle Eastern shippers to reach East Asian markets without risking cargoes along the busy, pirate-prone Malacca Strait.

    Suncor Energy Products Inc., Calgary, said it will begin planned maintenance Apr. 25 at its 70,000 b/cd refinery in Sarnia, Ont.
  • 04/23/2007 -- Sinopec joint venture plans Chinese chemical plant
    Sinopec Zhenhai Refinery & Chemical has established a 4.44 billion yuan venture with Lyondell Chemical Co. to construct a propylene oxide-styrene monomer (POSM) manufacturing facility in Ningbo, China, across Hangzhou Bay from Shanghai.
