    China's National Development and Reform Commission has approved a refinery JV project between Sinopec and Kuwait Petroleum Corp. in southern China's Guangdong province.
  • 12/05/2007 -- Total, Sonatrach plan Algerian petchem complex
    Total SA and Algeria's Sonatrach have signed a framework agreement to build a $3 billion petrochemical complex with a 1.4 million tonne/year ethane cracker in Arzew, near Oran, by 2012. The signing follows a memorandum of understanding signed in July (OGJ Online, July 19, 2007).

  • 12/11/2007 -- California refineries must report GHG emissions in 2009
    California's refineries, power plants, cement kilns, and manufacturing plants will be required to report annual GHG starting in 2009, CARB agreed Dec. 6.

    ConocoPhillips has formed an alliance with agricultural processing firm ADM to develop technology to convert biomass into renewable transportation fuels.
  • 08/07/2007 -- Shell approved for ProJet acquisition in Malaysia
    Shell has received Malaysia's approval to acquire 100% of ConocoPhillips's wholly owned subsidiary Conoco Jet (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., which operates the ProJet retail marketing assets in Malaysia.
  • 07/02/2007 -- Exxsol Jurong Island fluids plant to be expanded
    ExxonMobil Chemical said it will add 130,000 tonnes/year of capacity to its Exxsol hydrocarbon fluids plant in Jurong Island, Singapore, raising commercial production to more than 500,000 tonnes by yearend 2008.
  • 05/10/2007 -- ExxonMobil to pay for California air violations
    ExxonMobil Corp. agreed to pay $250,000 in penalties to the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) for excess emissions on Mar. 22 from its 130,000 b/d Torrance, Calif., refinery, AQMD confirmed May 10.
  • 05/09/2007 -- Total Canada plans bitumen upgrader near Edmonton
    Total E&P Canada Ltd. plans to begin detailed engineering in 2008 for a bitumen upgrader to be installed near Edmonton. Cost of the project was not divulged.
  • 04/18/2007 -- ConocoPhillips, Tyson Foods to make renewable diesel
    ConocoPhillips has teamed with meat producer Tyson Foods Inc. to produce diesel from animal fat and will spend $100 million over the next few years to upgrade several US refineries to enable production of the new diesel.
  • 03/20/2007 -- Williams Refining to pay $2.2 million to settle pollution charges
    Williams Refining Co. agreed to pay $2.2 million to settle charges that it violated Clean Air Act provisions at its Memphis refinery, the US Department of Justice and Environmental Protection Agency jointly announced.
  • 03/19/2007 -- French refiners coping with refining constraints
    As the world oil industry faces changes and reflects often-contradictory trends, France's refining industry is coping with its own growing conflicting constraints, said Patrick Haas, president of trade group UFIP, at its annual press conference.
