    European Gas Ltd., Perth, is drilling a second well after reporting "highly encouraging results" from its first coalbed methane stratigraphic well on the St. Avold portion of the Bleue Lorraine Permit in northeastern France.

    A stratigraphic test has confirmed the existence of a carbonate platform and found oil shows in the Northern Apennine Thrust in south-central Italy, said Pentex Italia Ltd. and Ascent Resources PLC.

    BG Group, Premier Oil PLC, and Sweden's PA Resources are some of the companies securing acreage in the mature parts of the North Sea, the Norwegian Sea, and the Barents Sea under Norway's licensing round for predefined areas. Norway offered 48 production licenses in total.

    A Toreador Resources Corp. joint venture has encountered 37 m of gas-bearing sands in three zones between 1,159 m and 1,375 m TVD in the Akcakoca-4 well—the 11th successful well in its South Akcakoca subbasin project off Turkey.

    Saudi Aramco has signed a contract with Belgium dredging contractor Jan De Nul for work that will aid development of offshore Manifa oil and gas field, which is expected to produce 900,000 b/d of Arabian Heavy crude and 120 MMscfd of gas by 2011.
