    RWE Dea AG will drill at least two wells and will shoot a 3D seismic survey over a 3-year span on the acreage it has picked up in Egypt on the Tanta onshore concession.

    A wildcat being drilled in Assam, India, encountered a sandstone at 4,002 m measured depth with good hydrocarbon shows and high formation pressure, said operator Premier Oil.

    Pan American Energy has signed a $550 million loan agreement with International Finance Corp. for development of Cerro Dragon oil field in the Golfo San Jorge basin in Chubut, Argentina.

    Gulfsands Petroleum PLC said it intends to move rapidly to commercialize its Khurbert East discovery after it achieved a successful open-hole drillstem test of the first appraisal well on Block 26 in northeastern Syria.

    Giant Petroleum Inc., Irving, Tex., and Hilltex Operating Co. have completed three of 20 wells they plan in Shackelford and Throckmorton counties, Tex.
  • 08/01/2007 -- Dominion acquires exploration license in Uganda
    Dominion Petroleum Ltd. has signed a production-sharing agreement (PSA) with Uganda to explore Block 4B in southwestern Uganda. The 2,021 sq km block is on the border contiguous with the Democratic Republic of Congo. Block 4B lies southeast of Lake Edward in the Eastern Rift Valley in the same sedimentary basin as Lake Albert.
  • 08/01/2007 -- Australia awards 11 offshore exploration permits
    Total E&P Australia, Samson International (Australia) Pty. Ltd., and CNOOC Australia E&P are among companies acquiring 6-year exploration permits in Australia's latest licensing round. The permits can be renewed twice for periods of 5 years.
  • 08/01/2007 -- PDVSA, Cupet to explore off Cuba
