  • 08/15/2007 -- Peru heavy oil fields await development
    Barrett Resources (Peru) retained a financial advisor to review alternatives to facilitate development of three large heavy oil fields in northeastern Peru.
  • 08/14/2007 -- Statoil installs Tordis subsea production system
    Statoil ASA has installed the 1,250-tonne Tordis subsea production unit near Gullfaks field in the Norwegian North Sea, using the Saipem S7000 heavy-lift crane vessel.
  • 08/13/2007 -- Operation contract let for Al Zaafarana FPSO
    Gemsa Petroleum has let a 200 million kroner contract to Aker Kvaerner for operation, management, and maintenance of the Al Zaafarana FPSO vessel, which it operates in the Red Sea off Egypt.
  • 08/10/2007 -- US drilling hits 21-year high
    US drilling activity hit a new high for this year, up by 17 to 1,798 rotary rigs working, said Baker Hughes Inc.
  • 08/09/2007 -- Providence to start gas flow from High Island A2
    Providence Resources PLC expects to start natural gas production from the lowest reservoir level in its A2 well at High Island A268 in the Gulf of Mexico by the end of August.
  • 08/07/2007 -- Pioneer Drilling expands operations to Colombia
    Pioneer Drilling said it has won its first drilling contract in South America, with one rig to be sent to Colombia by the end of the month and two others to be sent elsewhere in the region by early 2008.
  • 08/03/2007 -- TNK-BP launches $2 billion rig tender
    TNK-BP is seeking as many as 60 dedicated drilling rigs in tenders valued at more than $2 billion. The rigs will be used to maintain output from mature oil and gas fields in eastern Siberia and to prepare for new production in 2008.
  • 08/03/2007 -- Statoil ready to install Tordis subsea unit
    Statoil ASA plans to install the Tordis subsea production facility during the week of Aug. 6 in the Norwegian North Sea to increase recovery by 35 million bbl of oil (OGJ, May 14, 2007, p. 17).

    The Tui Area Development in the offshore Taranaki basin of New Zealand has come on stream 19 months after the final investment decision and some 3 years after discovery.

    Canadian crude oil pipelines could be facing a transportation bottleneck this fall, according to a report released by Canada's National Energy Board (NEB) July 30. NEB regulates nearly 45,000 km of pipelines in Canada.
  • 07/30/2007 -- Oil flow starts from Polvo field off Brazil
    Devon Energy Corp. (operator with 60% interest) and SK Energy (40%) have started production from Polvo oil field off Brazil, estimated to have 50 million bbl of reserves (OGJ, Feb. 19, 2007, p. 34).
  • 07/30/2007 -- Thailand extends Chevron, PTTEP concessions
    Thai authorities have agreed to extend concession rights of groups led by Chevron Corp. and PTT Exploration & Production PLC (PTTEP) for 10 years to 2022. The extensions enable the country's two largest gas producers to continue operating their gas-condensate fields in the Gulf of Thailand after the current licenses expire in 2012.

    Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Co. (ADMA-OPCO) has let a contract to Technip of Paris and National Petroleum Construction Co. of Abu Dhabi for work that will raise production capacity of giant offshore Zakum oil field.

    Newfield Exploration Co., Houston, reported having boosted gas production in the Val Verde basin, Texas Panhandle, and South Texas areas in the quarter ended June 30.

    Trinidad and Tobago's state oil company Petroleum Co. of Trinidad and Tobago Ltd. (Petrotrin) has reduced its crude oil production by nearly 15,000 b/d due to safety concerns.

    The first stage of Russia's East Siberia-Pacific Ocean oil pipeline from Taishet to Skovorodino will be filled at the rated capacity of 30 million tpy once completed, according to senior Russian officials.

    Total unit Elf Petroleum Nigeria signed a $520 million turnkey contract with Hyundai Heavy Industries for a production platform to be built for Ofon oil and gas field off southeast Nigeria.

    Saipem SPA will lease eight drilling rigs in Egypt, Nigeria, and Saudi Arabia under four deals jointly valued at $510 million.
  • 07/23/2007 -- US rig count dips from 21-year high
    US drilling activity dipped slightly last week from a 21-year high with a net loss of one rotary rig and 1,790 still working, Baker Hughes Inc. reported.
  • 07/20/2007 -- Production starts from Independence Hub
    Atwater Valley Producers reported that production has begun from the Independence Hub platform, moored in 8,000 ft of water on MC Block 920, 123 miles southeast of Biloxi in the Gulf of Mexico.
