HOUSTON, Dec. 15 -- Premier Oil PLC unit Premier Oil Vietnam BV has completed successful drillstem testing of two zones of the Blackbird discovery well (12E-CS-1X) on Block 12E off Vietnam. The well found four oil-bearing intervals in the main Middle Miocene Dua sandstone target, two of which have yet to be tested (OGJ Online, Nov. 16, 2006).
In tests from the first zone, oil flowed at a sustained 2,177 b/d and gas at 1.63 MMscfd through a 44/64-in. choke with a wellhead pressure of 618 psi. When testing the second zone, oil flowed at a sustained 3,706 b/d and gas at 2.49 MMscfd through a 1-in. choke with a wellhead pressure of 544 psi. Neither test produced any water.
Following completion of all tests, Premier will drill a sidetrack to obtain additional reservoir information and accelerate field appraisal. Preparation of resource assessments and reservoir evaluation reports is under way.
The Blackbird discovery is 21 km southwest of the Dua discovery Premier reported in October, for which commercialization has already begun (OGJ Online, Oct. 11, 2006).
On completion of a previously announced farmout agreement, operator Premier will hold 37.5% interest in Block 12E, and Australia's Santos Ltd. will hold 37.5%. Delek Energy Systems Ltd. of Natanya, Israel, holds the remaining 25%.
Block 7&8/97 interest
Premier also reported excercizing an option to acquire a 45% working interest in, and operatorship of, Block 7&8/97, off Vietnam in the Nam Con Son basin, just southeast of Block 12. Its partner, Vietnam American Exploration Co. (Vamex) will hold 55%.
Premier and Vamex have acquired, processed, and interpreted 2D seismic data across the block that indicate existence of the same play elements that create petroleum prospectivity in Block 12. The seismic has identified several large structures "suitable for high-impact well locations," Premier said.
