HOUSTON, Dec. 21 -- Liberty Oil & Gas Ltd., a private Ontario operator, took a farmout from Greentree Gas & Oil Ltd., London, Ont., to participate in drilling 2 wells in the province.

The Tilbury West prospect in Essex County is a 300 m offset to a Talisman Energy Inc. horizontal light oil producer along a seismically defined Ordovician Trenton-Black River anomaly.

The West Lorne prospect in Elgin County offsets an Imperial Oil Ltd. deep hole that had an interpreted 4 m of potential bypassed gas pay in Silurian Grimsby sandstone. Two wells northwest of the location had initial flows of 1.77 and 1.13 MMcfd, and 6 recent wells to the southeast flowed 1.0-4.2 MMcfd from Grimsby.

Drilling has begun at Tilbury West and West Lorne.

Liberty, founded in May 2005, acquired the Ontario assets of Veteran Resources Ltd. Liberty cofounders are Simon Brame and Morley Salmon. Brame, a professional geologist and 25-year veteran of Talisman Energy, led its Fortuna Energy Inc. unit to become New York's largest gas producer at more than 100 MMcfd earlier this decade.
