Newfield lifts Arkoma Woodford gas program

By OGJ editors
HOUSTON, Mar. 23 -- Newfield Exploration Co., Houston, plans to drill 65 wells, of which 45 will be horizontal, in 2006 on the Oklahoma side of the Arkoma basin Devonian Woodford shale play where it has accumulated interests in 110,000 acres since 2003.

The company has drilled 100 vertical wells in the play, which extends 60 miles north-south and 15 miles east-west in Hughes, Coal, and Pittsburg counties (OGJ Online, Mar. 7, 2006). Gross output from those wells is 41 MMcfd of gas.

That drilling has confirmed the shale's extent throughout the company's acreage. The formation is 120-240 ft thick. Horizontal drilling started in late 2005 to better exploit the shale's natural fractures, Newfield said.

The company drilled or participated in eight horizontal wells since October 2005, five of which are being completed. Newfield-operated well results include:

-- Parker 1H-36, Newfield 73% working interest, initial production above 6 MMcfd, rate after 14 days 4.8 MMcfd.

-- Reeder 1H-10, Newfield 80%, initial output 3 MMcfd, rate after 7 days 2.6 MMcfd.

-- Whitlow 1H-27, Newfield 57%, initial flow 3 MMcfd, rate after 7 days 2.4 MMcfd.

The Reeder and Whitlow wells are returning fluids following frac jobs.

Newfield has interests in three earlier horizontal wells operated by another company, said Lee K. Boothby, Newfield vice-president Mid-Continent.

"The combination of our 100 vertical wells and recent horizontal results helps support our belief that we can drill and complete horizontal wells for approximately $4 million (gross) and recover 2.5-3 bcfe/well."

Newfield is running six rigs in the play, four of them on horizontal wells.

Global LNG: Adjusting to New Realities

Fri, Mar 20, 2015

Oil & Gas Journal’s March 20, 2015, webcast will look at how global LNG trade will be affected over the next 12-24 months by falling crude oil prices and changing patterns and pressures of demand. Will US LNG production play a role in balancing markets? Or will it add to a growing global oversupply of LNG for markets remote from easier natural gas supply? Will new buyers with marginal credit, smaller requirements, or great need for flexibility begin to look attractive to suppliers? How will high-cost, mega-projects in Australia respond to new construction cost trends?

US Midstream at a Crossroads

Fri, Mar 6, 2015

Oil & Gas Journal’s Mar. 6, 2015, webcast will focus on US midstream companies at an inflection point in their development in response to more than 6 years shale oil and gas production growth. Major infrastructure—gas plants, gathering systems, and takeaway pipelines—have been built. Major fractionation hubs have expanded. Given the radically changed pricing environment since mid-2014, where do processors go from here? What is the fate of large projects caught in mid-development? How to producers and processors cooperate to ensure a sustainable and profitable future? This event will serve to set the discussion table for the annual GPA Convention in San Antonio, Apr. 13-16, 2015.

This event is sponsored by Leidos Engineering.

The Future of US Refining

Fri, Feb 6, 2015

Oil & Gas Journal’s Feb. 6, 2015, webcast will focus on the future of US refining as various forces this year conspire to pull the industry in different directions. Lower oil prices generally reduce feedstock costs, but they have also lowered refiners’ returns, as 2015 begins with refined products priced at lows not seen in years. If lower per-barrel crude prices dampen production of lighter crudes among shale plays, what will happen to refiners’ plans to export more barrels of lighter crudes? And as always, refiners will be affected by government regulations, particularly those that suppress demand, increase costs, or limit access to markets or supply.
