HOUSTON, Jan. 31 -- El Paso Corp.'s ANR Pipeline Co. has received firm commitments for 17 bcf of natural gas storage capacity and associated transportation service for the first phase of a storage-enhancement project in Michigan's Lower Penninsula.

The first phase, which surpassed the company's initial capacity target of 13 bcf, is expected to be in operation by Apr. 1, 2007.

El Paso also is gauging shipper interest in the project's second phase, which could entail a combination of new storage capacity construction, enhancements to existing storage, and expansions. The open season for the second phase will end Feb. 22. The results will be used to allocate capacity, finalize project design, and seek regulatory approvals. The second phase is expected in operation by Apr. 1, 2008.
