    Galaxy Energy Corp., Denver, plans further coalbed methane exploration on the Neues Bergland permit near Frankfurt, Germany, after abandoning the first wildcat.
  • 07/28/2006 -- PDVSA begins prospecting in Bolivia
    State-owned Petroleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA) has started surveys in Bolivia to identify prospective hydrocarbon areas under control of Bolivian state firm YPFB, said Miguel Tarazona, PDVSA general manager.
  • 07/28/2006 -- Total unit buys stake in licenses off Nigeria
    Total unit Elf Petroleum Nigeria signed a farm-in agreement with Amni International Petroleum Development for a 40% participating interest in two licenses off southeast Nigeria.
  • 07/27/2006 -- Brazil sets date for eighth licensing round
    Brazil's National Petroleum Agency (ANP) has set the country's eighth exploration licensing round for Nov. 28 in Rio de Janeiro, ANP said July 26.

    Austral Pacific Energy Ltd. and Rift Oil PLC plan to conduct a feasibility study to assess commercialization options for its recent gas discovery on the Douglas prospect in the PPL 235 area of Papua New Guinea.
  • 07/26/2006 -- Chevron completes Big Foot sidetrack well
    Chevron USA Inc. reported that operations have concluded on Big Foot Well No. 2, sidetrack 3, at the Big Foot discovery on Walker Ridge Block 29 in the Gulf of Mexico. The well lies in 5,000 ft of water about 225 miles south of New Orleans.

    Total SA has discovered oil on Block NC 191 in the Murzuq basin in southwestern Libya, 800 km south of Tripoli. This is the first discovery on the block.
  • 07/26/2006 -- Total finds oil off Congo (Brazzaville)
    Total E&P Congo made an oil discovery in the Moho-Bilondo exploration permit in about 600-900 m of water 80 km off Congo (Brazzaville).
  • 07/26/2006 -- Western Cooper basin oil play taking hold
    Stuart Petroleum Ltd., Adelaide, spudded the Light Fingers-1 wildcat on PEL 113 about 2.8 km west of its high-flowing 2006 Toparoa oil discovery scheduled to begin producing later this year.
  • 07/26/2006 -- Trinidad and Tobago deep water spurs majors' interest
    Bidding is scheduled to close on Oct. 30 for eight blocks being offered in the Trinidad Deep Atlantic Area off Trinidad and Tobago. The blocks lie in 1,700-2,500 m of water (OGJ Online, Mar. 24, 2006).

    Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago reported they are nearing an agreement to jointly develop more than 10 tcf of natural gas in unitized fields lying in cross-border reserves (OGJ, Aug. 18, 2003, p. 33).

    Breaker Energy Ltd., Calgary, said an exploratory well near Girouxville, Alta., has 400,000 to more than 1 million bbl of recoverable oil and the thickest light oil sand pay yet encountered in the area.

    Statoil ASA, operator of Production License 322, has reported a dry hole with its exploration well in the Edvarda structure 100 km northwest of Ormen Lange gas field in the southern part of the Norwegian Sea.

    Edge Petroleum Corp., Houston, plans more drilling on the Midway Dome in Lamar County, Miss., after an exploratory well logged a total of 140 ft of apparent net pay in five zones.
