    The consortium that operates Peru's giant Camisea gas-condensate project is reported to have begun drilling the first of six production wells in Pagoreni gas-condensate field on nearby Block 56.

    National Iranian Oil Co. plans to sign contracts shortly with China's Sinopec on the Khorramabad exploration block and with Norsk Hydro ASA on the Garmsar block, press reports indicated.
  • 06/07/2006 -- BG Group signs contracts for blocks off China
    CNOOC Ltd. signed two production-sharing contracts with BG Group for deepwater Blocks 64/11 and 53/16 in the western South China Sea. The agreements remain subject to final government approval.

    Gujarat State Petroleum Corp. and GeoGlobal Resources Inc., Calgary, plan to appraise an Upper Cretaceous gas-condensate discovery on Block KG-OSN-2001/3 in shallow water of the Krishna-Godavari basin off Kakinada.

    Statoil ASA, operator of Production License 050, reported two oil discoveries in the Tampen area of the North Sea.
  • 06/12/2006 -- Large oil discovery reported in N. Iraq
    DNO ASA, Oslo, said its Tawke-1 exploration well in the northern Kurdish region of Iraq discovered 100 million bbl of recoverable oil in a single zone using a 30% recovery factor.

    Independents plan to explore several blocks in the Kom Ombo basin along the Nile in Upper Egypt.
  • 06/12/2006 -- Firms look to tap Philippine Calauit oil
    Vital Resources Corp., Calgary, plans to acquire 100% of private Bentley International Oil Ltd.'s interest in a May 26 farmout agreement with NorAsian Energy Ltd. of the Philippines that covers service contracts 50, 51, and 55 in the Northwest Palawan-Mindoro basin.

    Texalta Petroleum Ltd., Calgary, completed a flowing oil discovery from Mississippian Alida at East Wordsworth in Southeast Saskatchewan.
  • 06/13/2006 -- Achimgaz drilling Siberian production well
    The ZAO Achimgaz joint venture of Wintershall AG and OAO Gazprom subsidiary OOO Urengoygazprom has begun drilling the first production well to develop the Lower Cretaceous Achimov formation of Urengoy field in western Siberia.

    CNPC International Tenere Ltd. said a rig and support equipment are to arrive in mid to late July in Cotonou, Benin, from China for the 400-km road trip to the first location to be drilled on the Tenere Concession in eastern Niger.
  • 06/14/2006 -- Spartan enters PSA with Belize
    Spartan Petroleum Corp., Houston, has entered a production-sharing agreement (PSA) with the government of Belize covering 250,000 acres in the northern portion of the country.
  • 06/16/2006 -- Husky has deepwater gas find off China
    Husky Oil China Ltd. reported a "significant" discovery with its Liwan 3-1-1 well on Block 29/26 off China, confirming what it calls "a new hydrocarbon province" in the South China Sea.
  • 06/19/2006 -- Statoil confirms Morvin, Valemon discoveries
    Statoil ASA said it has confirmed the Valemon gas and condensate discovery near Kvitebjørn field in the Norwegian North Sea and the Morvin oil discovery on Halten Bank north of Kristin field in the Norwegian Sea.
  • 06/19/2006 -- JSX Energy seeks more Thai acreage
    JSX Energy (Thailand) Ltd., part of Canada's Andaman Energy Corp., has sought two more onshore blocks to expand its acreage in northern Thailand.

    South Korea's Daewoo International Corp. and its partners have made a natural gas discovery on A-3 Block off Myanmar.
  • 06/23/2006 -- Holloman to drill three Cooper basin wells
    Holloman Corp., Odessa, Tex., will drill three wells to earn two-thirds interests in three exploration permits in South Australia's Cooper basin under a farmout from Australian-Canadian Oil Royalties Ltd.
