  • 04/05/2006 -- Norway awards 13 licenses in 19th round
    The Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, in Norway's 19th licensing round, awarded 17 companies interests in 13 production licenses covering 33 blocks or parts of blocks on the Norwegian continental shelf.
  • 04/05/2006 -- Shale wildcat planned north of Philadelphia
    A private Michigan independent plans to explore for natural gas in an organic shale of Jurassic age in a Mesozoic basin just north of Philadelphia.
  • 04/06/2006 -- Japex donates seismic equipment to Iraq
    Japan Petroleum Exploration Co. (Japex) is donating $15-20 million worth of seismic survey equipment to Iraq under a technical cooperation agreement originally made in 2005 and renewed last month for a year.

    Falcon Natural Gas Corp., Houston, and Edwin S. Nichols Exploration Inc., Meridian, Tex., plan to start drilling the Pecan Station North prospect 3 miles north of Pecan Station oil field in Nolan County, Tex.

    The US Minerals Management Service has issued a proposed notice for Western Gulf of Mexico Outer Continental Shelf Lease Sale 200, scheduled for Aug. 16.
  • 04/07/2006 -- Pogo, Keeper to explore Vietnam block
    Pogo Producing Co. and Keeper Resources Inc. have signed an exploration and production sharing contract with state-owned PetroVietnam for Block 124 covering 1.48 million acres in the Phu Khanh basin northeast of Ho Chi Minh City.
  • 04/07/2006 -- Lukoil-Perm begins Gabyshevskoye development
    Lukoil-Perm has started development of Gabyshevskoye oil field in the Oktyabrsky district in the south of the Perm region. It didn't disclose drilling plans.
  • 04/07/2006 -- Contract let for Shah Deniz platform placement
    A BP PLC unit has let a contract to McDermott Caspian Contractors Inc. (MCCI) for platform placement in the first stage of development of Shah Deniz offshore gas and condensate field 100 km south of Baku (see map, OGJ, Oct. 18, 2004, p. 39).
  • 04/10/2006 -- Lukoil-Perm finds oil in Russia's Perm region
    Lukoil-Perm, the operating arm of Lukoil Overseas Holding Ltd., has discovered oil with an exploration well drilled to 1,800 m in the Oktyabrsky and Chernushinsky districts in the southern Perm region of Russia.
  • 04/10/2006 -- Toreador completes Dogu Ayazli-2 off Turkey
    Toreador Resources Corp., Dallas, has completed the Dogu Ayazli-2 appraisal well 1,969 ft west-northwest of the Dogu Ayazli-1 discovery under development in the Black Sea off Turkey (OGJ Online, Mar. 9, 2006).
  • 04/11/2006 -- Development set for sensitive Ecuadoran area
    Petroecuador's production unit Petroproduccion reported plans to develop Panacocha oil field in the Amazonas province before yearend.
  • 04/12/2006 -- BHP Billiton gets two blocks off Colombia
    BHP Billiton Ltd. has signed contracts with Colombia's Agencia Nacional de Hidrocarburos (ANH) for exploration and production rights to two blocks in the Caribbean.
  • 04/12/2006 -- PTTEP to receive Block 58 in Oman
    Thailand's PTT Exploration & Production PLC (PTTEP) submitted the winning bid for 2,264 sq km Block 58 in southwestern Oman.

    The Ministry of Mines & Energy signed a production-sharing agreement with Afar Exploration Co. LLC, Tulsa, Okla., covering 21,187 sq km in the Afar National Regional State.
  • 04/17/2006 -- GAIL, Arrow plan joint coalbed methane work
    India's energy conglomerate GAIL and Arrow Energy NL, Brisbane, signed an MOU outlining areas for joint cooperation and investment in coalbed methane projects in Australia and India.
  • 04/17/2006 -- Dominion stakes three Alabama shale tests
    The Black Warrior basin unit of Dominion Exploration & Production Co., Richmond, Va., staked three more exploratory tests to Floyd/Conasauga shale in north-central Alabama.
  • 04/18/2006 -- Firm acquires additional acreage in Utah
    Colorado Wyoming Reserve Co. (CWYR), Grand Junction, Colo., has acquired a 42.5% interest in 6,000 acres bordering a 16,640-acre area in which it holds varying interests and has acquired 3D seismic data in southeastern Utah.
  • 04/18/2006 -- Aramco makes gas discovery in Persian Gulf
    Saudi Arabia announced a natural gas discovery in the Persian Gulf that could produce as much as 80 MMcfd of gas.
  • 04/18/2006 -- Petsec to develop Gulf of Mexico oil strike
    Petsec Energy Inc., a US subsidiary of Australia's Petsec Energy Ltd., has begun development planning for Main Pass Block 18 in the Gulf of Mexico after making what it calls a 1 million bbl oil discovery there.
