Drilling planned on Block 5B in Sudan

HOUSTON, Dec. 14 -- Lundin Petroleum AB reported plans for as many as three exploration wells on the 20,119-sq-km Block 5B in the Muglad basin in Sudan.

The drilling would start late next year after the acquisition of 1,100 line-km of 2D seismic data.

Lundin Block 5B BV holds a 24.5% interest in the exploration and production sharing agreement covering the block. The operator is WNPOC, a joint operating company of Petronas Carigali White Nile (5B) Ltd., with a 39% interest in the block, and Sudapet Ltd., 13%. The other interest holder is ONGC Videsh Ltd., 23.5%.

Oil and gas work resumed in Sudan following the Jan. 9 signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement between the Sudanese government and the rebel Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army (OGJ, Feb. 28, 2005, p. 34).
