LOS ANGELES, July 20 -- Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (Sabic) has signed a letter of intent with Toyo Engineering Co. of Japan for the engineering, materials supply, and construction of a 700,000-tonne/year ethylene glycol (EG) plant in the Yansab complex at Yanbu Industrial City, Saudi Arabia.

When completed, Sabic said, the Yansab complex will be the largest petrochemical complex of its kind in the world, with capacities exceeding 4 million tonnes/year of various petrochemicals.

Toyo is also building an ethylene oxide and EG plant with an output of 630,000 tonnes/year at Jubail for a Sabic petrochemical affiliate. That plant is scheduled for completion in second quarter 2006.
