Sabine Pass LNG terminal under way

By OGJ editors

HOUSTON, Apr. 12 -- Cheniere Energy Inc., Houston, has begun construction on its Sabine Pass LNG receiving terminal in Cameron Parish, La. The 2.6 bcfd-equivalent facility will have two docks and three LNG storage tanks with an aggregate LNG storage capacity equivalent to 10.1 bcf. Terminal operations are expected to commence in 2008.

Cheniere Energy's wholly owned limited partnership Sabine Pass LNG LP is constructing the facility.

Cheniere Energy received Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approval in December 2004 to site, construct, and operate the storage facility and on Mar. 10, 2005 received regulatory clearance to commence construction (OGJ Online, Dec. 22, 2004).

"This facility is "the largest ever authorized by FERC," said FERC Commissioner Suedeen Kelly. "At full capacity it will supply the equivalent of 3% of our nation's natural gas needs."

Cheniere is planning three other LNG receiving terminals on the Gulf Coast: a wholly owned terminal near Corpus Christi, Tex., another near the Creole Trail in Cameron Parish, La., and a 30% limited partnership in Freeport LNG Development LP, which is building a receiving terminal at Freeport, Tex. (OGJ Online, Dec. 22, 2004).

The Future of US Refining

When Fri, Feb 6, 2015

Oil & Gas Journal’s Feb. 6, 2015, webcast will focus on the future of US refining as various forces this year conspire to pull the industry in different directions. Lower oil prices generally reduce feedstock costs, but they have also lowered refiners’ returns, as 2015 begins with refined products priced at lows not seen in years. If lower per-barrel crude prices dampen production of lighter crudes among shale plays, what will happen to refiners’ plans to export more barrels of lighter crudes? And as always, refiners will be affected by government regulations, particularly those that suppress demand, increase costs, or limit access to markets or supply.
