  • 10/17/2005 -- Oklahoma refinery expansion planned
    Wynnewood Refining Co., a wholly owned subsidiary of Denver-based Gary-Williams Energy Corp., plans to upgrade and expand capacity of its 55,000 b/d refinery in Wynnewood, Okla., to 70,000 b/d. When the project is complete in mid-2007, the refinery will be able to process heavy, sour crude while exceeding new environmental standards.
  • 10/14/2005 -- French refinery workers' strike extended
    Workers at Total SA's 342,000 b/d Gonfreville L'Orcher refinery in northern France have extended their strike to Oct. 17.
  • 10/12/2005 -- Contract let for petrochem plant boilers
    BASF FINA Petrochemicals LP, a BASF Corp. and Total Petrochemicals USA Inc. joint venture, has let a $7 million contract to a US subsidiary of Foster Wheeler Ltd.'s Global Power Group for two custom-designed, shop-assembled package boilers for its petrochemicals plant in Port Arthur, Tex.
  • 10/11/2005 -- French refinery, port strikes raise costs
    The workers' strike at Total SA's Gonfreville L'Orcher refinery, now in its 18th day, will be extended until tomorrow, at which time strikers will decide whether to pursue further action. Total has confirmed the strike is costing the group €1.5-2 million/day.

    Altagas Income Trust, Calgary, plans to construct, own, and operate a 20 MMcfd sour gas processing plant in the Princess area of southern Alberta.
  • 10/05/2005 -- French port strike threatens refineries
    A strike affecting the ports of Fos and Lavéra on the French Riviera could force refineries owned by Royal Dutch Shell PLC, Total SA, and BP-Innovene to shut down for lack of feedstock if it does not end within a few days.

    Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (Sabic) affiliate Eastern Petrochemical Co. (Sharq) has let three contracts for the Sharq III expansion of its petrochemical complex in Jubail Industrial City, Saudi Arabia (OGJ Online, Feb. 24, 2005).

    Société Anonyme Marocaine de l'Industrie de Raffinage (SAMIR) has awarded a contract to Foster Wheeler Italiana SPA, Milan, for project management of its $650 million Mohammedia refinery upgrade and expansion project near Casablanca, Morocco.

    Thai Oil Public Co. Ltd. let a contract worth more than $100 million to ABB of Switzerland to expand and revamp its 220,000-b/d Sriracha refinery on the Gulf of Thailand.
  • 09/29/2005 -- Petrobras' REPAR facility due delayed coker
    Petróleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) has selected ConocoPhillips's ThruPlus delayed coking technology for a grassroots 31,450 b/d delayed coking unit at its 196,000 b/d Pres. Getúlio Vargas Refinery (REPAR) in Araucaria, Paraná, Brazil. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

    Trinidad and Tobago has approved construction of a $100 million gas-to-liquids (GTL) plant expected to start producing high-quality diesel fuel by first quarter 2007.

    Dzharkurganneftepererabotka, a joint venture of Russia's Petromaruz and Uzbekistan's Dzharkurganneft, plans a 2,600 b/d refinery in Dharkurgan in southern Uzbekistan.
  • 09/26/2005 -- Strike halts output of Total refinery in France
    Total SA said operations at its Gonfreville l'Orcher refinery, the largest in France, came to a halt on Sept. 26 as a workers' strike over pay moved into its seventh day.

    PetroChina Co. Ltd. let a $140 million contract to Linde AG of Wiesbaden, Germany, to provide technology and key components to build what will become China's largest ethylene plant.

    Sinopec Guangzhou Co., a unit of China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (Sinopec), has let a contract to Invensys Process Systems, Foxboro, Mass., to supply automation systems for a major refinery expansion in southern China.
  • 09/02/2005 -- Sudan, Petronas planning Red Sea refinery
    The Sudanese government has awarded Malaysia's Petroliam Nasional Bhd. (Petronas) a contract estimated at $1 billion to build a 100,000 b/d export refinery at Port Sudan on the Red Sea coast.
  • 09/02/2005 -- China bans new oil product export contracts
    China has banned new export contracts for oil products and has canceled value-added tax rebates on gasoline and naphtha exports for 4 months.
  • 08/25/2005 -- Foster Wheeler to design BP delayed coker
    BP Oil Refineria de Castellon SA, a unit of BP PLC, let a contract to Foster Wheeler USA Corp. to supply a process design package for a 20,000 b/sd delayed coking plant in Spain. The contract's value was withheld.
