    China's National Development and Reform Commission has granted approval for PetroChina to build a $2.5 billion ethylene plant at Sichuan Province's capital city of Chengdu.
  • 12/28/2005 -- Frontier lets lump-sum turnkey contract to CB&I
    Frontier El Dorado Refining Co. let a lump-sum, turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction contract to Chicago Bridge & Iron Co. (CB&I), The Woodlands, Tex., for a crude and vacuum unit at the 110,000 b/cd refinery in El Dorado, Kan.
  • 12/21/2005 -- Jamnagar refinery hydrogen capacity to grow
    Reliance Industries Ltd., Mumbai, has let a contract to Linde AG, Wiesbaden, Germany, for five hydrogen units for its 660,000 b/cd refinery at Jamnagar, Gujarat.
  • 12/15/2005 -- FEED contract let for refinery expansion
    Marathon Oil Corp. has let a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract to Fluor Corp. for the $2.2 billion expansion of its 245,000 b/d Garyville, La., refinery. The contract value was not disclosed.
  • 12/15/2005 -- Schwedt refinery to get etherification plant
    PCK Raffinerie GMBH has let a €25 million turnkey contract to Uhde for a plant for the etherification of light naphtha with bioethanol at its 220,000 b/cd refinery in Schwedt, Germany.
  • 12/13/2005 -- Japan Energy plans aromatics complex
    Japan Energy Corp. will invest ¥70 billion to build a 580,000 tonne/year (tpy) aromatics complex and a 60,000 b/sd condensate splitter at the 190,000 b/sd Kashima Oil Refinery.
  • 12/12/2005 -- Petrobras, PDVSA to build heavy-oil upgrader
    Brazil's state-run Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) and Venezuela's Petroleos de Venezuela SA plan to jointly build a heavy-oil upgrading plant in Venezuela that would cost about $1 billion, Petrobras announced.

    Sudan has started up a 12-in., 741-km pipeline for the export of oil products from the 50,000 b/d Gaili refinery to Port Sudan on the Red Sea coast.
  • 12/09/2005 -- BP to invest $1 billion in refinery following explosion
    BP Products North America Inc. Dec. 9 released its final incident investigation report on the Mar. 23 Texas City, Tex., refinery explosion and fire (OGJ Online, Mar. 23, 2005). The company said it plans to invest about $1 billion to improve and maintain the site over the next 5 years.
  • 12/09/2005 -- Sabic lets EPC contracts for Yansab plants
    Saudi Arabia's Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (Sabic), Riyadh, has awarded a contract to Technip Italy of Rome for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of an ethylene and propylene plant at its Yansab complex at Saudi Arabia's Yanbu Industrial City.

    South Korea's antitrust regulator has unconditionally approved SK Corp.'s bid to acquire bankrupt refiner Inchon Oil Refinery Co.
  • 12/05/2005 -- Mombasa refinery upgrade design under study
    Kenya Petroleum Refineries Ltd. (KPRL) has awarded a contract to Foster Wheeler Energy Ltd. to prepare the "basis of design" for an upgrade of its 85,500 b/cd hydroskimming refinery and for a products import terminal at Mombasa, Kenya.
  • 12/05/2005 -- Statoil, Enterprise sign 10-year LPG deal
    Statoil ASA has signed a 10-year contract with Enterprise Products Operating LP for the sale, export, and storage of LPG at Enterprise's terminal in Mont Belvieu, Tex.
  • 12/02/2005 -- Saudi Aramco adding sulfur-recovery units
    Saudi Aramco has let contracts to a subsidiary of Jacobs Engineering Group Inc., Pasadena, Calif., for 13 Superclaus sulfur-recovery units (SRUs) at three gas plants in Saudi Arabia. The contract value was not disclosed.

    Saudi Aramco has begun construction of its Hawiyah gas processing plant near Ghawar oil field south of Dhahran (OGJ Online, Mar. 21, 2005).
  • 12/01/2005 -- ENOC to upgrade Dubai condensate refinery
    ENOC Processing Co. LLC (EPCL) has let an engineering, procurement, and construction management contract to a Foster Wheeler Ltd. subsidiary for a major upgrade of its 120,000 b/sd condensate refinery in Jebel Ali, Dubai (OGJ, Mar. 27, 2000, p. 59). The terms of the contract were not disclosed.
  • 11/29/2005 -- Syntroleum to test GTL process with coal
    Syntroleum Corp., Tulsa, plans to test its propriety Fischer-Tropsch catalyst with coal-derived synthesis gas at a coal gasification plant.
  • 11/23/2005 -- UK firm to build LDPE plant in Pakistan
    Trans Polymers Ltd. of the UK plans to construct a low-density polyethylene (LDPE) plant at Karachi with an initial investment of $480 million.
  • 11/23/2005 -- Flint Hills to invest in Kenai diesel unit
    Flint Hills Resources Alaska LLC will contribute $15 million to the construction of a diesel desulfurization unit at Tesoro Corp.'s Kenai, Alas., refinery in exchange for 6,000 b/d of low-sulfur diesel and gasoline.
  • 11/23/2005 -- Linde to build Saudi air separation plants
    SABIC subsidiary National Industrial Gas Co. has let a contract worth more than €300 million to Linde AG for two air separation plants in petrochemical complexes at Jubail and Yanbu, Saudi Arabia.
