    A group led by ExxonMobil Corp. spudded one of the most-watched wells ever in the Gulf of Mexico.
  • 02/10/2005 -- CNPC presses seismic work in Tenere, Niger
    A unit of China National Petroleum Corp. plans to acquire the full 1,500 line km of seismic data specified in the $55 million minimum work program on the 17.3 million acre Tenere Block in the Termit-Tenere rift basin in Niger.
  • 02/09/2005 -- Foster Wheeler wins Abu Dhabi contract
    Abu Dhabi Gas Industries Ltd. (Gasco) has awarded Foster Wheeler Ltd. a project management consultancy (PMC) contract for development of the world-scale Onshore Gas Development Project III (OGD-III) at Habshan field in Abu Dhabi.

    BG Exploration & Production India Ltd. has let a $131 million contract to Clough Ltd., Perth, to expand development of Panna oil field and South Tapti gas field in shallow water off the Arabian Sea off western India northwest of Mumbai (OGJ, Oct. 13, 2003, Newsletter).

    Angola's state-owned oil company Sociedade Nacional de Combustiveis de Angola (Sonangol EP) and Esso Exploration Angola (Block 15) Ltd. have reported the arrival of the Kizomba B tension leg platform (TLP) at Luanda.

    The government of Timor-Leste is finalizing details for a new petroleum fiscal regime this month before an onshore and offshore licensing round scheduled during April and June.

    Apache North Sea Ltd. will drill as many as four exploratory wells in the central North Sea under several farmouts from Shell UK Ltd.
  • 02/08/2005 -- Kerr-McGee gets deepwater block off China
    Kerr-McGee China Petroleum Ltd., a wholly owned affiliate of Kerr-McGee Corp., signed a production-sharing contract with China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) for deepwater Block 43/11, more than doubling its acreage in China to 4.1 million acres.

    Libya's National Oil Corp., in its first licensing round since US sanctions were lifted last spring, has awarded 15 exploration permits to 12 non-European companies.

    Ramco Donegal Ltd. (RDL), UK, and its partners have acquired the Frontier Exploration License 1/05 covering 408 sq km 70 km off northwestern Ireland.

    EnCana Corp., Calgary, has spudded a rank wildcat in the Columbia River basin in nonproducing Washington state.

    Marathon Petroleum Norge AS and partners have let an engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning contract to Vetco Aibel of Norway for all topsides work on the floating, production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel to handle output of Alvheim oil field off Norway.

  • 01/26/2005 -- Statoil begins Snøhvit drilling
    Statoil ASA has begun drilling carbon dioxide injection well F-2H, the first well in Phase I development of Snøhvit gas field in the Barents Sea.

    Po Valley Energy Ltd., Rome, began civil works on its 100%-held Sillaro field, following government approvals.
