  • 02/24/2005 -- CNR to develop Horizon oil sands
    Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. (CNR), Calgary, will proceed with the first phase of development of the Horizon oil sands leases near Fort McMurray, Alta., via mining and upgrading of bitumen.
  • 02/24/2005 -- Topas pilot flow starts off Norway
    Statoil ASA has begun production from its Topas discovery in the Norwegian North Sea in a pilot phase approved by the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy.
  • 02/22/2005 -- Chesapeake builds Midcontinent resource play positions
    Chesapeake Energy Corp., Oklahoma City, said it has built large acreage positions in Midcontinent gas resource plays in Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas.
  • 02/22/2005 -- El Paso has deep gas find off Louisiana
    El Paso Production Co. has discovered gas in the deep shelf of the Gulf of Mexico.
  • 02/22/2005 -- Statoil to start Volve production
    Statoil has submitted to the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy a plan for development and operation of the Volve discovery on Production License 046 in the North Sea.
  • 02/21/2005 -- Eni makes oil discovery in deepwater Gulf of Mexico
    Eni SPA reported an oil discovery on Green Canyon Block 298 in deep water, 260 km south of New Orleans. The Allegheny South exploration well was drilled to 4,870 m TD in 1,000 m of water.
  • 02/18/2005 -- Lukoil exits Zykh-Govsany project
    OAO Lukoil subsidiary Lukoil Overseas Holding Ltd. has exited the Zykh-Govsany field-rehabilitation project in Azerbaijan with the approval of its 50:50 partner State Oil Co. of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR).
  • 02/18/2005 -- Forest makes gas finds in Alaska, Rockies
    Forest Oil Corp., Denver, reported two successful exploration wells: in the Cook Inlet area of Alaska, where it has more than 1.1 million net undeveloped acres, and in the Green River basin of Utah.
  • 02/18/2005 -- Well off Trinidad and Tobago scores gas
    ChevronTexaco Corp. and 50:50 partner British Gas PLC have confirmed that their Manatee 1 exploration well on Block 6d off Trinidad and Tobago has encountered "significant amounts of natural gas." ChevronTexaco operates the well, its first off Trinidad and Tobago.

    Woodside Mauritania Pty. Ltd.'s majority-owned and operated Tiof-6 appraisal well off Mauritania has flowed high rates of oil and gas during production tests.
  • 02/17/2005 -- Tests prove oil on Gabon's Koula prospect
    Shell Gabon SA and coventurer Pan-Ocean Energy Corp. Ltd. Helier, Jersey, UK, have completed a 6-day well test on its recently drilled AWOKOU-1 ST3 appraisal well on the Awoun permit in Gabon, West Africa.

    Tunisia's state-owned ETAP has let a contract to PGS Geophysical AS, Lysaker, Norway, to acquire exclusive 2D and 3D seismic data in the Tyrrhenian basin, off northern Tunisia.
  • 02/16/2005 -- Berkine appraisal well finds new Triassic pay
    Appraisal wells on Ledjmet Block 405b in the Berkine basin discovered a new pay zone of Middle Triassic age and indicated extension of several pools in Menzel Ledjmet East gas-condensate field, said First Calgary Petroleums Ltd., Calgary.

    BP Exploration (Angola) Ltd. has made a fifth oil discovery, Palas-1, on ultradeepwater Block 31, off Angola.
  • 02/15/2005 -- New tests prove Uganda well noncommercial
    Heritage Oil Corp., Calgary, reported that new tests of the Turaco-3 well on Block 3 in Uganda showed that carbon dioxide is dominant, but the company maintains that the basin is still highly prospective for oil.
  • 02/15/2005 -- Pemex cancels Ricos gas block tender
    Mexico's national oil company Petroleos Mexicanos said that no bids were received for an international tender under the multiple service contract program for the Ricos Block in the Burgos basin.
  • 02/14/2005 -- ConocoPhillips gets green light on Venezuela's Corocoro
    Venezuela has approved a plan for ConocoPhillips unit Conoco Venezuela CA and its partners to develop giant Corocoro oil field in eastern Venezuela's Gulf of Paria (OGJ, June 21, 2004, p. 39).

    Newfield Exploration Co., Houston, discovered oil and gas in prospects in the UK North Sea and the Gulf of Mexico.
  • 02/11/2005 -- Niko chases oil in Hazira gas field off India
    Niko Resources Ltd., Calgary, plans to further delineate a hefty oil pay zone at its Hazira gas field just off western India in the Cambay basin.
  • 02/11/2005 -- Russia to exclude foreign bidders
    Non-Russian companies will be precluded from bidding on major resource-development projects in Russia this year.
