    ChevronTexaco Corp.'s Angolan subsidiary, Cabinda Gulf Oil Co. Ltd. (CABGOC), started oil production from Bomboco field in Block 0, off Cabinda.
  • 01/04/2005 -- Statoil drills first Block 4 test off Venezuela
    Operator Statoil drilled its first wildcat on Block 4 of the Plataforma Deltana area of the Venezuelan continental shelf where it is the sole licensee for the block.
  • 01/03/2005 -- MMS to evaluate interest in oil, gas sale in Cook Inlet
    The US Minerals Management Service asked energy companies to provide feedback of their exploration interest in the potentially resource-rich federal waters of Cook Inlet, which could provide much needed energy for south-central Alaska.
  • 10/18/2005 -- Devon group plans 1,250 wells in Wyoming
    Devon Energy Corp., Oklahoma City, on behalf of itself and seven other companies, has applied to the US Bureau of Land Management for approval to continue development drilling in the Creston Blue Gap II Project Area (CBGIIPA) in Carbon and Sweetwater counties of South-Central Wyoming.

    A record number of companies—144, compared with 42 last year—were qualified to participate in Brazil's seventh oil and gas licensing round Oct. 17-19, which generated more than $529.6 million for Brazil and is being called the country's most successful auction.
  • 10/03/2005 -- Japanese operators to enter Libyan exploration
    Libya's National Oil Co. (NOC) has awarded exploration rights through an international tender to five Japanese companies. They are the first oil concessions ever won in Libya by Japanese corporations.
  • 10/10/2005 -- Chevron to develop Gulf of Mexico field
    Chevron Corp. plans to develop Blind Faith oil and gas field in 7,000 ft of water 160 miles southeast of New Orleans on Mississippi Canyon Blocks 695 and 696.
  • 10/10/2005 -- FX Energy advances E&D projects in Poland
    FX Energy Inc., Salt Lake City, operator of the Wilga-2 natural gas and condensate well on the Lublin concession about 100 miles southeast of Warsaw in Poland's Permian basin, has let contract to the Polish firm PBG SA to develop the discovery.
  • 10/13/2005 -- Husky completes seismic program, plans Summit Creek wells
    Husky Energy Inc., Calgary, has completed a 200-km 2D seismic program on Block EL 397, which contains the Summit Creek B-44 discovery, in the Central Mackenzie Valley area of Northwest Territories, Canada.
  • 10/14/2005 -- Exploration tax breaks urged in Australia
    Australian Minister for Industry, Tourism, and Resources Ian Macfarlane is pressing for a new set of petroleum exploration tax breaks to be incorporated in the government's federal budget in May 2006.
  • 11/03/2005 -- Santos, ConocoPhillips get Timor Sea permit
    Santos Ltd. reported the award of exploration permit NT/P69 for Timor Sea acreage adjacent to exploration permit NT/P61, which contains the recent Caldita-1 gas discovery (OGJ, Oct. 10, 2005, Newsletter).
  • 11/04/2005 -- Uinta, Wind River gas exploration buoys Barrett
    Bill Barrett Corp., Denver, expressed encouragement at important gas well test results in the Rocky Mountain Uinta and Wind River basins.
  • 11/17/2005 -- Venezuela awards five gas E&P licenses
    Venezuela, in the second round of bidding in its vast Rafael Urdaneta natural gas project, has awarded exploration licenses to four foreign firms and a domestic company, Energy Minister Rafael Ramirez said Nov. 15.
  • 11/28/2005 -- Norway okays Ringhorne Øst oil development
    Norwegian authorities approved the development and operating plan for Ringhorne Øst oil field on Block 25/8 in the North Sea, 180 km west of Karmøy, development operator ExxonMobil E&P Norway said Nov. 25.
  • 11/29/2005 -- Syntroleum due stake in oil find off Nigeria
    Syntroleum Corp., Tulsa., signed an agreement with the Nigerian oil and gas company Britania-U Nigeria Ltd. to acquire 40% interest in an oil discovery on Oil Mining Lease 90 off Nigeria.
  • 11/15/2005 -- Burlington presses East Texas Deep Bossier gas play
    Drilling activity is brisk in the East Texas Deep Bossier gas play north of Bryan, Tex., and is poised to get even busier in 2006.
  • 12/06/2005 -- Devon signs contract for block off China
    Devon Energy Corp. has signed a production-sharing contract with China National Offshore Oil Corp. for South China Sea deepwater Block 42/05, subject to Chinese government approval.
  • 12/12/2005 -- Far East to spud second Chinese CBM well
    Far East Energy Corp. this month plans to spud its second coalbed methane (CBM) horizontal well on the Shouyang Block in Shanxi Province, China.
  • 12/14/2005 -- Newfield to explore South China Sea block
    Newfield Exploration Co., Houston, will explore a block in the South China Sea under a production-sharing contract signed with China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC).
  • 12/19/2005 -- Woodside to start Angel field development
    Woodside Energy Ltd. reported that development of Angel gas and condensate field off Western Australia will begin immediately following final investment decisions by North West Shelf Venture participants (OGJ Online, Nov. 1, 2005).
