    Petrobras has begun drilling an oil well in Serra field in the northern state of Rio Grande do Norte that will have the largest ratio between vertical depth and horizontal reach of any well in Brazil.
  • 11/14/2005 -- Eni reports gas shows in well off Brazil
    Italy's Eni SPA told the National Petroleum Agency of Brazil that its 1-ENI-4A-RJS wildcat, drilled to 5,900 m TD in 387 m of water on Santos basin Block BM-S-4 off Brazil, encountered gas shows.

    India's Dir. Gen. of Hydrocarbons V.K. Sibal confirmed at a meeting in New Delhi that the upcoming new exploration licensing policy (NELP) round would likely be the last as India moves toward a more-transparent open acreage nomination system.

    Brazil's state-owned Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) is in the final stages of negotiations with Spain's Repsol YPF SA for development of giant Mexilhao gas-condensate field on Block BS-400 in the Santos basin off Brazil.

    Brazil's state-owned Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) said it has agreed to share its US Gulf of Mexico deepwater exploration and production expertise with Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) if Mexico will change its laws to permit foreign companies to operate in its sector of the gulf.

    Calvalley Petroleum Inc., operator of Malik Block 9 in Yemen, reported the completion of its fifth horizontal development well in the Sayun-Masila basin in Hiswah oil field in Yemen.
  • 11/22/2005 -- Vintage tests Upper Lam B oil in Yemen
    Vintage Petroleum Inc. has tested 43° gravity oil from the subsalt Jurassic Upper Lam B formation in An Nagyah oil field in Yemen.
  • 11/23/2005 -- Sonoran, Jordan sign Azraq Block agreement
    Sonoran Energy Inc. and the Natural Resources Authority of Jordan have signed their previously reported production sharing agreement for the 11,250-sq-km Azraq Block east of Amman (OGJ, Oct. 3, 2005, Newsletter).

  • 11/23/2005 -- Australian firm drilling in northern Italy
    Po Valley Energy Ltd., Sydney, has increased its drilling in northern Italy. The company spudded the Sillaro-1 deviated appraisal-development well about 25 km east of Bologna.

    BHP Billiton will increase gas plant capacity by 50% to a total of 450 MMcfd in the second phase of development of Zamzama gas field in Pakistan.

    The US Minerals Management Service has issued a proposed notice for Central Gulf of Mexico Outer Continental Shelf Lease Sale 198 scheduled Mar. 15, 2006.
  • 11/29/2005 -- BHP Billiton to develop field off Australia
    BHP Billiton Ltd. and equal joint venture partner Woodside Energy Ltd. have approved the $600 million development of Stybarrow oil field in the WA-255-P(2) permit 65 km off Western Australia (see map, OGJ, Aug. 4, 2003, Newsletter).

    DNO ASA, Oslo, has spudded a well in far northern Iraq under production sharing agreements signed with the Kurdistan regional government in June 2004.
  • 12/02/2005 -- Shell to explore deep targets in Ukraine
    Ukraine's national oil company Naftogaz Ukrainy and Shell Exploration & Production Co. signed a cooperation agreement covering deep exploration in the Dniepr-Donets basin.

    Esso Exploration Angola (Block 15) Ltd. has let a lump-sum, turnkey contract to Saipem SPA for development of Marimba oil field in 4,230 ft of water off Angola.
  • 12/02/2005 -- Saipem to install six KMZ platforms for Pemex
    Pemex Exploracion y Produccion has let contract to Saipem SPA for offshore transport and installation of six platforms in the Ku-Maloob-Zaap (KMZ) fields development project in the Bay of Campeche, 105 km northwest of Ciudad del Carmen, Mexico.
  • 12/05/2005 -- Statoil gets ministry nod for Tyrihans work
    Statoil ASA has received approval from the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy for development of Tyrihans oil and gas field in the Norwegian Sea.
  • 12/06/2005 -- Well off Mauritania encounters hydrocarbons
    Dana Petroleum PLC unit Dana Petroleum (E&P) Ltd. reported that its Faucon-1 exploration well, being drilled on Block 1 off Mauritania, has encountered hydrocarbon-bearing sandstone in the main Cretaceous target horizon.
  • 12/06/2005 -- Petronas makes gas discovery off Sarawak
