    ONGC Videsh Ltd. (OVL), the overseas arm of India's state-owned Oil & Natural Gas Corp., expects to sign in November a contract for 100% interest in Block 127 in the Phu Khanh basin off central Vietnam.
  • 10/04/2005 -- Roc Oil eyes higher Cliff Head oil recovery
    Roc Oil Ltd., Sydney, operator of the Cliff Head oil field development off Perth basin in Western Australia, has flagged a possible addition of $13 million (Aus.) to its project development budget of $227 million to recover an extra 1 million bbl of oil.

    Lundin Petroleum AB will plug and abandon its Aje-3 appraisal well in 3,100 ft of water on Block OML 113 in the Benin basin off Nigeria (OGJ, May 2, 2005, p. 58).

    South Korean trading firm Daewoo International Corp., in partnership with two Indian state-run oil and gas companies and a South Korean gas corporation, has signed an agreement to explore Block A3 off Myanmar.

    CJSC Elvary Neftegas, a Rosneft and BP joint venture, has drilled and tested the second exploratory well on the 6,000 sq km Kaigansky-Vasuykansky exploration license in the southern portion of the Sakhalin V acreage 40 km off northeastern Sakhalin Island.

    Pakistan has signed a 1-year memorandum of understanding, effective Oct. 7, with JSC Gazprom of Russia for cooperation in oil and gas projects.
  • 10/11/2005 -- Vintage tests Upper Lam oil in Yemen
    Vintage Petroleum Inc., Tulsa, has tested 43° gravity oil from the subsalt Upper Lam formation in An Nagyah field in Yemen.
  • 10/12/2005 -- Oil Search gets Egypt Eastern Desert block
    Oil Search Ltd., Sydney, bought a 100% interest in Eastern Desert Area A on the west side of the central Gulf of Suez from Geopetrol SA, Paris.

    Proved reserves of natural gas in the US were up nearly 2% in 2004, while proved oil reserves fell more than 2%, the Energy Information Administration said.

    Baraka Petroleum Ltd., Perth, let a contract for $3.7 million in airborne exploration surveys on five blocks in the nonproducing Taoudeni basin in northern Mali.
  • 10/18/2005 -- Lukoil, PDVSA to study Orinoco belt block
    Lukoil Overseas Holding Ltd. and the investment division of state-owned Petrόleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA) have signed a 3-year agreement to research a section of the Junin Block (formerly Zuata) in the Orinoco oil belt in Anzoategui, eastern Venezuela.
  • 10/18/2005 -- Pearl to drill in Jasmine area off Thailand
    Pearl Energy Ltd. of Singapore has let contract to ENSCO Oceanics Co. for use of the ENSCO 107 jack up in a 60-day exploration program scheduled to start in March 2006 on Block B 5/27 in the Gulf of Thailand.
  • 10/19/2005 -- Shell starts seismic survey in Libya
    Shell Exploration & Production GMBH began a land seismic survey in the coastal Sirte basin near Marsa Al-Brega and hopes to start exploratory drilling in late 2006-early 2007.
  • 10/19/2005 -- TARC to explore South China Sea blocks
    China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) has signed a production-sharing contract (PSC) for Block 03/27 and a geophysical agreement for Block 28/20, both in the Pearl River Mouth basin, with privately held Texas American Resources Co. (TARC), Austin.
  • 10/20/2005 -- Record-length wells eyed in Alaskan Beaufort
    BP PLC is studying feasibility of developing its Liberty oil discovery in the Beaufort Sea off Alaska with extended-reach wells of possibly record lengths.
  • 10/20/2005 -- Seismic survey due off Western Australia
    Karoon Gas Australia Ltd. has let contract to PGS Exploration Ltd. for an 840 sq km 3D survey by the Ramform Victory seismic vessel on its adjoining Browse Basin permits WA-314-P and 315-P off Western Australia (OGJ, Oct. 17, 2005, p. 34).
