12/30/2005 -- Quest Oil plans Texas field upgrades
Units of Quest Oil Corp., Houston, are undertaking a development expansion program in Texas that includes workover operations in Hawkeye field and Quest Oil's newly acquired Midkiff field in Eastland County and the Nettie Gardner lease in McCulloch County.
12/30/2005 -- Trust looks toward Alberta CO₂ operations
ARC Energy Trust, Calgary, closed the $462 million (Can.) acquisition of stock in two ExxonMobil Corp. affiliates that operate and hold interests in two central Alberta fields it believes have large remaining light oil recovery potential.
12/28/2005 -- Aramco extends contract for Saudi Arabian fields
Saudi Aramco extended a contract to subsidiaries of J. Ray McDermott SA to fabricate, transport, and install 16 additional jackets in oil and gas fields off Saudi Arabia.
12/27/2005 -- Maersk, QP to boost Al Shaheen oil output
Maersk Oil Qatar Co. and state-owned Qatar Petroleum agreed to more fully develop Al Shaheen field on Block 5 in the Persian Gulf, boosting production gradually to 525,000 b/d by late 2009 from 240,000 b/d in the first quarter of 2006.
12/27/2005 -- US drilling rebounds to 1,475 rigs working
US drilling activity rebounded somewhat, up by 12 rotary rigs to 1,475 working last week after dropping 20 the previous week, Baker Hughes Inc. reported Dec. 22. That compared with 1,257 rigs drilling during the same period in 2004.
12/27/2005 -- Gas production starts at UK Rhum field
BP PLC and Iranian Oil Co. UK Ltd. have begun natural gas production and export from what was the UK's largest undeveloped gas discovery, Rhum gas field, 240 miles northeast of Aberdeen.
12/21/2005 -- Norway approves Tordis IOR project
Statoil ASA received approval from the Norwegian government for a 2 billion kroner improved oil recovery (IOR) project at Tordis oil field in the North Sea.
12/20/2005 -- La Vela field gas flow starts in Venezuela
Gas production has begun from La Vela field in the East Falcon Unit at the base of Venezuela's Paraguana Peninsula.
12/20/2005 -- Flow starts from Devil's Tower satellites
Dominion Exploration & Production Inc. reported first production from three subsea wells in deepwater Triton and Goldfinger oil fields, 140 miles southeast of New Orleans, on Mississippi Canyon Blocks 771, 772, and 728 in the Gulf of Mexico.
12/19/2005 -- Contract let for Gulf of Mexico jacket, deck
Seneca Resources Corp., Houston, has awarded J. Ray McDermott SA a turnkey contract for the design engineering, procurement, structural fabrication, process outfitting, and load-out of a three-pile jacket and deck to be installed in 124 ft of water on Viosca Knoll Block 432 in the Gulf of Mexico.
12/16/2005 -- US drilling drops by 20 rigs
US drilling activity dropped by 20 rotary rigs, with 1,463 working this week, up from 1,234 at this time a year ago, Baker Hughes Inc. reported Dec. 16.
12/16/2005 -- OMV group signs letter for Maari platform
A consortium led by OMV New Zealand Ltd. has signed a letter of intent with Clough Ltd. of Perth for a contract to build and install the Maari oil field wellhead platform in the Taranaki basin off New Zealand.
12/16/2005 -- Nine deepwater Gulf of Mexico finds noted
There have been nine deepwater (greater than 1,000 ft) oil and natural gas discoveries announced by operators in the Gulf of Mexico through November in 2005, the US Minerals Management Service reported.
12/15/2005 -- Devon to add 410-420 million boe to reserves
Devon Energy Corp., Oklahoma City, expects additions to proved reserves this year of 410-420 million boe and total production from properties retained after divestitures of 216 million boe.
12/13/2005 -- Rowan unit lets contract for Tarzan jack up
Rowan Cos. Inc. subsidiary LeTourneau Inc., Houston, has let a contract to Signal International LLC, Pascagoula, Miss., for a fourth Tarzan-class jack up (OGJ July 14, 2005, p. 56).
12/12/2005 -- Oil production starts from Yemen's Block 9
Calvalley Petroleum Inc., Calgary, has started production from Hiswah oil field on Malik Block 9 in Yemen. Calvalley is the operator and has 50% working interest.
12/12/2005 -- Norne oil discharge larger than thought
The Nov. 23 oil spill at Norne oil and gas field in the Norwegian Sea was larger than initially reported, said field operator Statoil ASA.
12/09/2005 -- South Texas tar cyclic steam pilot shapes up
A two-well cyclic steam pilot to test feasibility of producing shallow tar in the Maverick basin may be close to start-up.

A unit of Bankers Petroleum Ltd., Calgary, is redeveloping giant Patos-Marinza heavy oil field in central Albania under an existing license between state Albpetrol SHA and the National Petroleum Agency of Albania.
12/05/2005 -- First-phase Snøhvit drilling nearly complete
Statoil ASA has nearly finished drilling and completion in the first phase of the Snøhvit subsea development project 140 km northwest of Hammerfest, Norway, in the Barents Sea.
