HOUSTON, Dec. 23 -- US drilling activity rebounded, up by 23 rotary rigs to 1,257 working this week, said Baker Hughes Inc. on Dec. 23. The company's weekly rig count was issued early because of the Christmas holiday.
Land operations accounted for the increase, up by 23 units with 1,129 rotary rigs working. Activity in inland waters was unchanged with 21 rigs still working. Offshore drilling was unchanged overall with 107 rotary rigs working in US waters but was up by 1 unit to 101 in the Gulf of Mexico.
However, Canada's rig count plunged by 153 rotary rigs with 371 still working this week. That compares with 308 active rigs during the same period a year ago.
