HOUSTON, Apr. 12 -- Calgary-based Husky Energy Inc. received delivery of the SeaRose floating production, storage, and offloading vessel in White Rose oil field off Newfoundland and Labrador.
The FPSO, which has a storage capacity of 940,000 bbl of oil, entered construction in November 2002 at Samsung Heavy Industries' shipyard in South Korea.
The hull and turret were delivered within the project's schedule, said John C.S. Lau, Husky president and CEO. Husky expects first oil from White Rose field in late 2005 or early 2006. Peak production from the field is expected to reach 92,000 b/d of oil.
Over the next 18 months, the FPSO's topsides facilities will be completed, installed, hooked up, and commissioned; the turret and accommodations module already have been installed on the vessel.
The topsides contract was awarded to Aker Maritime Kiewit Contractors in April 2002. Topsides design was completed in St. John's, Newf.
The 1,000 tonne riser buoy used for mooring the FPSO has arrived at Bay Bulls, Newf. The buoy, fabricated by Single Buoy Mooring in Abu Dhabi, will fit in the FPSO's turret and is the connection between the mooring, subsea flowlines, and risers and the FPSO. The buoy will be installed at White Rose field by Technip Offshore Canada Ltd. later this summer.
The completed SeaRose FPSO is expected to sail to the White Rose oil field in fourth quarter 2005.
White Rose field owners are operator Husky 72.5% and Petro-Canada 27.5%.
