HOUSTON, Feb. 11 -- Two more Ordovician Trenton-Black River gas discoveries have been reported in New York's Finger Lakes region of the Appalachian basin.
The 1 Curren, in Chemung County, flowed at the rate of 20.5 MMcfd in 2 hr with 1,375 psi flowing pressure, said 49.3% working interest holder Belden & Blake Corp., North Canton, Ohio. TD is 11,500 ft. Deliveries are to begin in early March through a pipeline under construction.
Following a pipeline expansion scheduled for completion this summer, the well is expected to produce 6-10 MMcfd.
Belden & Blake also participated in the Harndon 1 discovery in adjacent Steuben County. Its current flow of 3.5 MMcfd of gas with 2,500 psi of flowing pressure is expected to grow to 4-5 MMcfd after the pipeline expansion. Belden & Blake's interest is 44.6%.
East Resources Inc., Wexford, Pa., operated the wells through drilling and completion, then turned over producing operations to Belden & Blake.
Belden & Blake plans to drill two more exploratory wells and four development wells in the immediate area in 2004. Completed vertical well cost is about $2 million.
In January, the Fortuna Energy Inc. subsidiary of Talisman Energy Inc., Calgary, said its Andrews Hz No. 1 well near Corning, NY, flowed at the rate of more than 18 MMcfd of gas with 1,300 psi flowing pressure and was believed capable of exceeding 30 MMcfd on unconstrained flow (OGJ Online, Jan. 16, 2004).
