Cheniere Energy secures Mobile Bay LNG site option

By OGJ editors

HOUSTON, Jan. 16 -- Cheniere Energy Inc., Houston, has entered into an option agreement with Atlantic Marine Inc. to purchase a site for a potential LNG receiving terminal in an industrial zone on Pinto Island in Mobile Bay, Ala.

Keith Meyer, president of Cheniere LNG, said, "We have now begun a process of community outreach to evaluate whether the residents of Mobile and its surroundings would support an LNG receiving facility at this site."

Cheniere also is a 30% limited partner in Freeport LNG, which applied in March 2003 to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for a permit to develop an LNG facility at Freeport, Tex., and Cheniere filed application Dec. 22, 2003, for sites at Corpus Christi, Tex., and Sabine Pass, La. (OGJ Online, Dec. 26, 2003).
