Finnish firm Fortum Oil & Gas Oy has commissioned ThyssenKrupp Group's engineering arm Uhde GMBH to design and supply equipment for a 140 MMscfd hydrogen production plant at Porvoo, about 30 km east of Helsinki and adjacent to Fortum's 200,000 b/d refinery.

Following a fire that broke out Apr. 8 at an alkylation unit at its 20,800 b/d Ciniza refinery near Gallup, NM, Giant Industries Inc. said it would temporarily shut down all of the plant's operating units.

Statoil ASA has received two giant natural gas compressors for use in its gas liquefication unit in its Snow White gas field, north of Hammerfest, Norway, in the Arctic Ocean.

Atlantic LNG (ALNG) partners have begun construction of a fifth LNG train in Trinidad and Tobago, although the consortium's members will differ from those that now own ALNG's existing three trains as well as the 800 MMcfd fourth train, now under construction.

Qatar Petroleum Co. and Sasol Chevron Consulting Ltd. are studying the technical and financial feasibility of expanding the Oryx GTL plant at Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar, to almost 100,000 b/d from 34,000 b/d and a plan for a 130,000 b/d upstream-downstream integrated GTL project involving a six-train facility for start-up by 2010.

Husky Energy Inc., Calgary, reported Monday that it plans to upgrade its 10,000 b/d Prince George, BC, refinery.
03/22/2004 -- First synthetic diesel shipped from DOE Catoosa GTL plant
Marathon Oil Co., Houston, and Syntroleum Corp., Tulsa, have delivered the first synthetic diesel fuel shipment from a newly constructed gas-to-liquids demonstration plant at Port of Catoosa, near Tulsa, (OGJ Online, Oct. 7, 2003). The two companies, along with the US Department of Energy, funded the $60 million facility's design, construction, and operation. It contains all components required for a commercial scale plant.
03/15/2004 -- Study finds global benzene markets will see tight supply through 2008
Worldwide benzene markets are forecast to experience supply tightness through 2008, which will be "exaggerated if demand growth rates accelerate beyond those forecast to 2006," according to a recent report released by Houston-based chemical consulting firm Chemical Market Associates Inc.
