  • 07/13/2004 -- Tullow Oil signs development agreement for Kudu gas field, Namibia
    Tullow Oil PLC, Dublin, reported that its subsidiary Energy Africa, operator of Kudu gas field off the southern Africa nation of Namibia, has begun Phase II predevelopment following the signing of a joint development agreement with Namcor—the National Petroleum Corp. of Namibia and Tullow's 10% partner in the field—and with Namibian power utility company NamPower relative to the planned development of Kudu field as part of a gas-to-power project.
  • 07/12/2004 -- Cairn completes Mangala oil field appraisal drilling
    Cairn Energy PLC, London, conducting an extensive exploration and appraisal program across its 5,000 sq km onshore Block RJ-ON-90/1 in the Rajasthan basin in northern Rajasthan, India, has confirmed the distribution and connectivity of the reservoir sands across Mangala field, and after drilling Mangala-5 and Mangala-6 appraisal wells, has successfully concluded its appraisal drilling campaign in Mangala oil field.

    After a year's delay, Indonesia is requesting bids for exploration and development of 10 oil and gas blocks and offering better production-sharing splits and incentives. Tender data is available through Sept. 30, and bid winners will be announced in October, reported the Jakarta Post.

    Pogo Producing Co., Houston, said development of the Kenderes gas-condensate area on the Szolnok Block in Hungary is on hold because a delineation well encountered "very limited hydrocarbon shows."

  • 06/29/2004 -- Total awarded exploration license in Norway's licensing round
    A consortium led by operator Total SA and including Royal Dutch/Shell Group, Statoil ASA, and ENI SPA were awarded a license to explore blocks 6406/7 and 4606/8 in the Haltenbanken area of the Norwegian Sea during Norway's recent 18th licensing round.
  • 06/29/2004 -- Dominion E&P makes Thunder Hawk discovery on MC 734
    Dominion subsidiary Dominion Exploration & Production, operator of the Thunder Hawk prospect in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico 150 miles southeast of New Orleans, announced a discovery with exploratory well Mississippi Canyon Block 734 No.1 ST1. Dominion's current estimate of reserves, based on two penetrations, is 50-150 million boe.
  • 06/25/2004 -- BP awards subsea system contract for Plutonio project off Angola
    BP PLC has awarded FMC Kongsberg Subsea AS, a unit of FMC Technologies Inc., Houston, to supply subsea systems and related services for the BP-operated Greater Plutonio project on Block 18 off Angola.
  • 06/25/2004 -- Statoil extends FPSO contract in Lufeng field in South China Sea
    Statoil (Orient) Inc., a unit of Norway's Statoil ASA, has awarded Lufeng Development Co. ANS, a unit of the Netherlands-based Bluewater Energy Services BV, a production contract extension for Lufeng field in the South China Sea.

    Oil & Gas Development Co. Ltd. in Pakistan (OGDCL), which reportedly holds 46% of the oil reserves and 37% of gas reserves in that country, selected advanced pipeline leak detection software from Energy Solutions International in Houston for its Qadirpur pipeline system.
  • 06/22/2004 -- Central Gulf of Mexico Sale 190 nets $364 million in high bids
    The US Department of the Interior's Minerals Management Service (MMS) accepted high bids totaling more than $364 million on 542 Gulf of Mexico tracts in its oil and gas lease Sale 190 Mar. 17. About 61% of the bids were for tracts in less than 200 m of water.

    Technip Offshore UK Ltd., subsea development contractor for operator Burullus Gas Co. on the West Delta Deep Marine (WDDM) concession north of the Nile Delta in the Mediterranean Sea, awarded a contract to Weatherford International Ltd.'s Pipeline & Specialty Services (P&SS) and Norson Services Ltd. to perform pipeline precommissioning services as part of the deepwater Simian, Sienna, and Sapphire fields development project (OGJ, Oct. 20, 2003, p. 9 ).
  • 06/17/2004 -- Vaalco completes Phase I of Etame 5H development well, begins new well off Gabon
    Vaalco Energy Inc., Houston, has cased the vertical portion of the Etame 5H development oil well off Gabon and will drill the horizontal portion following installation of flowlines and umbilicals to tie in the well and the next development well, Etame 6H, to the floating production, storage, and offloading facility moored at the field. Etame 6H will be drilled early in 2005.
