    Penn Virginia Corp., Radnor, Pa., said it controls 650,000 acres of prospective horizontal coalbed methane leasehold in the Appalachian basin.
  • 07/28/2004 -- Calvalley Petroleum approved for 6 well Yemen development
    Yemen's Ministry of Oil and Minerals has approved a plan by Calgary-based operator Calvalley Petroleum Inc. to drill two exploration wells and four development wells on Block 9 in Yemen as part of a 10 well program to evaluate the block's commerciality. Two wells completed earlier this year were successfully drilled in Al Roidhat field in the Qishn oil structure.

    Husky Energy Inc. and Trident Exploration Corp. extended for two more years a joint venture formed in 2002 to produce gas from coal beds in south-central Alberta.

    Houston-based Newfield Exploration Co. has made a deep shelf discovery at West Cameron 77, about 10 miles off Louisiana in about 40 ft of water.
  • 07/27/2004 -- Dolphin signs $1.36 billion loan accord with bank consortium
    Dolphin Energy Ltd. has secured a 5 year, $1.36 billion loan from a consortium of 16 local, regional, and international banks to fund a portion of the construction and operating costs for its $3.5 billion Dolphin project, reported OPEC News Agency.
  • 07/27/2004 -- ENI makes fifth discovery in Caspian Sea off Kazakhstan
    ENI SPA unit Agip KCO, operator of the North Caspian Sea production-sharing agreement with Kazakhstan's state-owned Kazmunay gas in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea, made its fifth field discovery with the Kairan-1 exploration well.

  • 07/26/2004 -- CNOOC makes new oil find in South China Sea
    CNOOC Ltd. reported a successful wildcat drilled on its 100% owned Huizhou (HZ) 26-3 prospect in the Pearl River Mouth basin of the South China Sea. The HZ 26-3-1 well flowed on test at more than 1,400 bbl of 41-43° light gravity crude and nearly 2 MMcfd of gas.
  • 07/22/2004 -- Woodside awards AMEC, Fluor EPC contract for Enfield FPSO
    Woodside Energy Ltd. has awarded a £93 million contract to London-based AMEC PLC and Fluor Corp. to provide detailed engineering, procurement, and construction management services for the 150,000 tonne Enfield floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel.
  • 07/22/2004 -- ChevronTexaco discovers oil, gas in Gulf of Thailand
    Chevron Offshore (Thailand) Ltd. (COTL) has completed exploration and appraisal drilling on Block G4/43 in the northern Gulf of Thailand 125 miles south of Bangkok.
  • 07/21/2004 -- Avouma oil discovery off Gabon tests at 6,600 b/d
    Vaalco Energy Inc., Houston, reported the Avouma exploration well Eavom-1, on the Etame permit 10.5 miles from Etame field off Gabon, flowed on test at a stabilized rate of 6,600 b/d of oil of 37-38° crude (OGJ Online, July 12, 2004). Flow was through a 40/64-in. choke at 746 psi from 20 ft of perforations in the Gamba sandstone section.

    The UK offshore oil and gas industry reports evidence of renewed activity across the North Sea, pointing to a pick-up in oil and gas project approvals, better than expected exploration activity, and continuing strong investment since Jan. 1.
  • 07/20/2004 -- Exploratory drilling planned in northwestern Bahamas
    Liberty Oil, an affiliate of Bahamas Oil Ltd., plans to conduct exploratory drilling northwest of Walker's Cay in the northwesternmost Bahamas to test for oil and gas.

    Statoil ASA has received government approval to develop and operate its two Norne satellites Svale and Stær in the Norwegian Sea and has awarded a number of supply and development contracts.
  • 07/15/2004 -- Vintage Petroleum reports another successful Yemen well
    Tulsa-based Vintage Petroleum Inc. reported its An Nagyah No. 8 appraisal well in Yemen tested light, 43° gravity oil from the subsalt Upper Lam formation. The well, which defined the eastern limit of the An Nagyah structure, is the fourth successful well drilled in An Nagyah field this year (OGJ Online, June 4, 2004).
  • 07/15/2004 -- MMS issues western gulf Lease Sale 192 final notice, revisions
    US Minerals Management Service (MMS) issued a final notice and revisions June 29 for its Lease Sale 192, slated for Aug. 18 in New Orleans. The oil and gas lease sale encompasses 3,907 blocks on 21.2 million acres of federal land in the western Gulf of Mexico off Texas and Louisiana (OGJ Online, Mar. 30, 2004).
  • 07/14/2004 -- Qatargas II awards wellhead jackets contract to J. Ray McDermott
    The Qatargas II project awarded an engineering, procurement, construction and installation contract for two wellhead jackets to J. Ray McDermott Middle East Inc., a subsidiary of McDermott International Inc., New Orleans.
