  • 01/16/2004 -- Daewoo makes giant gas discovery in Rakhine basin off northwestern Myanmar
    Daewoo International Corp., Seoul, and Korea Gas Corp. discovered 4 to 6 tcf of recoverable gas on Block A-1 in the nonproducing Rakhine basin shelf in the Bay of Bengal off northwestern Myanmar and plans to pursue other similar objectives on the block.
  • 01/14/2004 -- Premier to explore Ragay Gulf off the Philippines
    London-based independent Premier Oil PLC has received a license from the Philippines Department of Energy to explore a 10,800 sq km area in the Ragay Gulf, off Luzon, Philippines. The initial work will consist of technical studies and a seismic survey, with which Premier will define specific drilling targets for exploration drilling.
  • 01/12/2004 -- Dolphin awards platform contract for North field development project
    Dolphin Energy Ltd. of the UAE has awarded a $190 million contract to J. Ray McDermott for engineering, procurement, construction, and installation of two integrated drilling and production platforms for Qatar's North field development project. This contract is part of Dolphin's $3.5 billion project to supply the UAE with as much as 3.2 bcfd of natural gas from the gas field.
  • 01/08/2004 -- Santos awards Exeter, Mutineer field umbilical contract
    Santos Ltd. has awarded a contract to Oceaneering Multiflex, a division of Oceaneering International Inc., Houston, to supply a total of 34 km of thermoplastic umbilicals for Exeter and Mutineer fields off Western Australia. The umbilicals will be delivered in six lengths during the third quarter. Among other functions, they will provide power supply to as many as14 downhole and mud-line pumps.
  • 01/07/2004 -- Apache's second appraisal well in John Brookes field doubles area gas reserves
    Apache Corp. reported Tuesday that it has doubled to 800 bcf its total gross natural gas reserves in the John Brookes field area in the Carnarvon basin off Western Australia.
  • 01/07/2004 -- First jacket delivered for South Pars Phases 6-8 development
    The first production platform in South Pars Phases 6-8 field development in the Persian Gulf off Iran is scheduled to be ready for production in early 2005, reports Statoil AS, operator for Phases 6-8 on behalf of Iran's Petropars Ltd.

    Lakes Oil NL, Melbourne, plans to deepen the Wombat-1 exploration well in Gippsland basin onshore PEP 157 starting in mid-January to evaluate the Early Cretaceous Strzelecki Group.

    Afrex Ltd. plans to finalize a production sharing contract in the next 6 months governing the 11,550 sq km Massawa Block in the Red Sea off central Eritrea.

    Occidental Petroleum of Qatar Ltd. recently awarded UAE engineering firm National Petroleum Construction Co. a multimillion dollar contract for development of Idd El Shargi North Dome natural gas field off Qatar.
  • 01/02/2004 -- Greenland readies for licensing round in 2004
    The Greenland and Danish governments plan to open a licensing round in the Davis Strait off West Greenland with meetings in Copenhagen Apr. 1 and Houston Apr. 6.
