    Statoil ASA, on behalf of its partners on Production License 128 in the Norwegian Sea, has given a letter of intent to drilling contractor Transocean Inc. to charter its Transocean Arctic drilling rig for work in Norne field and two of its satellites. The contract is valued at 700 million kroner.

    Unocal Corp., El Segundo, Calif., reported that its Unocal Ganal Ltd. subsidiary has drilled a successful appraisal well in Gehem field on the Ganal production-sharing contract (PSC) area off East Kalimantan, Indonesia.

    BP Amoco Sharjah has awarded a 2 year extension to Halliburton's Energy Services Group to continue underbalanced drilling services in BP's Sajaa field in Sharjah, UAE. Halliburton is facilitating the underbalanced portion with its four-phase separation system. BP recently applied underbalanced drilling in the completion of its tenth well in the field.
  • 03/19/2004 -- GOM offshore rig demand hits 59-month low
    Demand for mobile offshore rigs in the Gulf of Mexico hit a 59-month low this week, as the number of contracted units dropped by 4 to 109 out of a fleet of 163, said officials Friday at ODS-Petrodata Consulting & Research, Houston.

    Woodside Energy Ltd.Friday decided to invest $1.48 billion (Aust.) in Enfield oil field development off Western Australia. Enfield is on permit WA-271-P, 40 km northwest of Western Australia's North West Cape. Enfield has reserves of more than 125 million bbl of oil, and operator Woodside holds 100% of the permit.
  • 03/26/2004 -- US drilling hits 30-month high.
    US drilling activity increased by 22 rotary rigs to 1,150 this week, the biggest number since mid-September 2001, Baker Hughes Inc. reported Friday. That's up from 962 in the same period last year.
